Not really. I actually hate it because my room is hella small and my idiot roommate always falls asleep with everything on. The AC/heater doesn't distribute evenly so its always too hot or too cold and we live on the 3rd floor so it costs more for heating and cooling. Oh and I have an awesome view of the parking lot, the field and the Racetrac. I can hear everything that goes on in the apartment downstairs, the one next door and the room next to mine. The walls are super thin here and the complex has the worst parking this side of UT. I pay way to much for a crappy apartment and I pay too much for utilities because I live with three dummies who apparently don't know how to turn stuff off. Oh and our kitchen is always dirty (which really sucks since most of our kitchen stuff is mine) and food just randomly dissappears. This is all tempered by the fact that the cost of living here is ridiculous and the job market sucks if you don't have a car. But on the other hand I love UNT, I just hate my apartment. I can't wait to get married. That'll be so much easier. *sidenote* GET A MINIFRIDGE. If you like knowing where you food is going I sincerly suggest getting one to keep your don't touch items in.
I figured it would be better to bump this thread than to start a new one. Our apartment was broken into this morning. They took my roommates ps2 (left the controllers) and his laptop. Luckily they didn't take anything from my room even though I wasn't home. My digital camera is in plain view once you enter my room and my laptop is also nearby. I left the apartment early this morning to go to campus while my roommate was only gone for 45 minutes to drop off his sister at the airport. This happened at Town Lake on the first floor.
that sucks man, in broad daylight too. my car was broken into the night before summer school started last month at university canyon on oltorf. my passengers side window was busted in and my radar detector was stolen.
I never had any problems with Longhorn Landings (or College Park, as it used to be.) In fact, after I signed up, the summer before my lease started, they started a $299 rent special. I moved in in fall, walked to the office, asked politely for the $299 rate instead of my $349 rent in a 4/2, and they were really nice about it. As far as safety, I lived in the phase that fronted Riverside, Building 11 - super tame. No noises ever. Easy. 3rd floor living was awesome, had high ceilings, never got busted for parties. Never had my car broken into or tampered with, never saw the cops by my building. The only bad thing was traffic on 35 coming home. We also used to walk across to the Trace bus stop to get on before Campus Estates residents could get on. In all, try to live somewhere else to get a good flavor of Austin. My list: 2003 - Prather dorm 2004 - Longhorn Landings 2005 - North Campus, 43rd and Duval (great area!) 2006 - Manor Rd. and Enfield (cool hipster area, great rent prices) If you're set on Riverside, by all means, go for it. But I highly suggest you look into East Austin (but stay north of MLK) to find some places in the 400-500/mo range, good vibe, cool people, good food, less traffic. hook'em
chalk me up as a broken car window and lost stereo on the East side. car breakins are very very common over Riverside and Oltorf way. It did take me living there for a while before it happened to me but it happened all around me consistently the whole time I lived there.
I'm living at Longhorn Landing starting in August. I did not think I could find anything better than 440$ a month with internet/cable/utilities paid for. I've lived in north campus the last 2 years and I've really liked it. I just didn't have roommates lined up so I figured riverside was the best option. Hope to save some money this year
Just to give ya an update, I decided to go with University Village (Crossing Place) and pay $426 for a 4/4 (utility package included). Can't wait to move in. Thanks again for everyone's advice.
