I remember Sura for these things: 1. He is a GREAT rebounder for a guard 2. He would pick fights with anyone 3. He faints
Loved his 1 year stint with the Rockets. Brought tenacity, grit, was a perfect complement to TMac in the backcourt.
Dude was cool, met him a few times out at the bars in midtown and for some reason saw him a few times at the Blockbuster in River Oaks, and yes always had a cutie with him. I really miss him and Barry, those guys always played hard like they had something to prove.
I hang out with him from time to time...probably once every couple of months. Great guy off the court...and it's definitely true that he's always around hot girls. As far as his play on the court, he was a tough nosed player that brought about a lot of team chemistry, which made that Rockets team very fun to watch. He always says that his best friend on that team, and even now, is Jon Barry.
He couldn't really shoot that well, played average D, couldn't really create and yet somehow the team always played better when he was on the floor. Dude was tough, fans love tough players, there wasn't a scrap or trash talk that Sura wasn't somehow involved in. Combine that with the fact he was kinda ripped away and didn't stay long enough for fans to notice his flaws. This was 04-05 and it's good memories by proxy. That whole season we were basking in the long term championships Yao/Mac were gonna bring us. He wasn't on the team when those dreams came crashing to reality.
He was just a great tough-as-nails guy, whose heart seemed to be bigger than his talent. Played through injuries, never backed down. He was what people at CF would call a "true Rocket." I wish he could be on the team every year.
Less so Bowen than the others. They did that little sideways 3-point hand sign when they hit one from downtown.
