When I lived in Italy people would invariably evoke some cowboy image when I mentioned I was from Texas.

Hell, they did that when I lived in Iowa.

At the Miami airport (easily one of the worst airports I have endured, and for more reasons than the one I'll cite here), returning from abroad, the Immigrations people immediately turned cold and unfriendly when I answered where I was from, and sent me to stand in the "get harassed, miss-your-flight" line. I don't think it would have helped if I told them I didn't vote for George Bush.

That is totally false and slanderous. I yell "Yi Hakeem!" at my horse.

Rockbox is also wrong too since horses don't have arms I apply leg locks to them. :p

Where do you live that people don't know where Houston is?

Yes Swoly, I was talking about an army operation from WWII. You totally nailed it.

I generally try and preserve the stereotype that we all ride horses. I would never claim to be a Cowboys fan, as much as possible I try and make them think that the state is still in the 1870's. I think it's hilarious when folks think like that.

I can't tell you how many times dippy Californians have asked me:

"Oh! You're from Texas?! Do you know ______ (some random name.)"

So odd. I would never ask a question like that based on a state or country.

When I lived in Vegas, I would get that every now and then. Remember that a large segment of the Vegas population is from anywhere other than Vegas.

I'm in Lima, Peru now. So when I say Houston, they always ask where is that.

The only questions I get are about the horns on the front of my Caddy.
