You are proving my point: Grossman's Superbowl run, which was over a year ago, in a season when, for the most part, the Bears won games inspite of Grossman's poor performance. Orlovsky played for the Lions, so I'll give him somewhat of a pass, since the Lions had so many holes. Still, a high 80's qb ratings for a few games, without winning any, is nothing to boast about. He showed some flashes, at best. Vick is no doubt flawed as a QB. However, his win/loss record cannot be ignored. As far as Vick's fit with the Texans as a backup, I could definitely see him filling one of the biggest needs on the Texans' offense. A serious lack of touch down punch in the red zone. Play action pass with an athlete of Vick's caliber could be a nice wrinkle to an anemic scoring offense. His dual threat, match up nightmare will force the defense to play more honest. As far as his baggage goes, I had conceded that point in an earlier post. I do not deny that Vick could very well be a one man PR and chemistry killer, which is why I would take him only as a backup, if you want, behind DO. If he becomes a real problem, cut him loose. Nothing gained, but not much lost.
in 8 of their 16 games that year, grossman posted ratings of 98 or above, including 7 that were 100+. granted, he was pretty uniformally bad in the other 8 games - but you said, "the two backups didn't exactly have quality starts". well, those 8 games of 98+, for a 13-3 conference champion, suggest otherwise. no one is bragging. on the worst team in the entire history of pro football (based on record), orlovsky had 4 quality starts in which he posted ratings of 95.3, 99.6, 88.2 and 96.8. that represents 50% of his starts. this idea that orlovsky ran out of the back of the end zone, and therefore must be terrible, is vastly overblown. he's a big, strong kid with a cannon for an arm and a smart pedigree. it would NOT shock me, at all, if kubiak saw him as a possible schaub plan B; as a potential franchise QB. remember, this is a do-or-die year for schaub because they have an out after this year. (FYI, not for nothing, but vick, for his career, posted a 88.2 or better rating in just 38% of his games. more games, i know - i'm not arguing orlovksy is better. i just thought that was interesting.) sure it can. hell, rex grossman was the QB of a 13-3 team that went to the SB - and that apparently doesn't matter but vick's record does? this is an agree-to-disagree topic with me; you'll never convince me wins and losses can be credited to one guy in a sport in which the team is so important. just ask vince young. as i said in earlier post, one could easily argue there's never been a more productive rusher in NFL history. however, there've been 1,00s of better QBs. and if teams know you can't pass, you're not really a dual threat. as much as the texans struggled with TOs in the red zone last year, the last thing i'd want to do is trot an inaccurate michael vick out there.
i would take him and play him as a wide reciver or a running back he doesnt like it ok find somewhere else
