Hey, TheFreak, I read somewhere that they are adding a bonus dvd with the Strokes album and selling it all for $7.99.

Thanks EC. Just picked it up for 9.99 at Best Buy though. Apparently they lowered it this week.

fba, your turn. :)

Freak,

I think you will like "Is This It?" Just don't let the hype get to you. I think that is why a lot of people dismiss them. They see all the hype and don't give them a chance.

Just imagine that their exposure is the same as the Toadies.:)

i'll buy them if i see in the stores, but chances are i might have to download them off the net. can you believe they still haven't gotten DMB busted stuff? i'm still waiting. stupid malaysian shops. i'm so sick of it. thank god i dont like rap music. they bleep the hell out of the albums.
the only reason they have the hives is because of the MTV VMA.

have you guys heard of the band who's drummer is jason schawrtzman of the movie Rushmore? i think the band is phantom planet, album called the guest. the papers here highly recomends it.

I've never understood not liking something because it was popular.

That's worse than liking something just because it was popular.

Hey Freak,

If you pick up the Strokes, I will get "I Get Wet" by Andrew W.K. (hell, I will get it anyway regardless of you getting the Strokes).

Looks like a CD I would like.

I don't know if anyone cares, but since this is an indie rock thread, I'll post and indie rock topic.

Pavement (i.e. the best band of all time) is releasing a remastered version of the classic album Slanted and Enchanted to commemorate the albums Ten Year Anniversary. It will contain remastered version of the album's original 14 songs, as well as 34 extra tracks consisting of outtakes, b-sides, and live performances.

In addition, they will be releasing a DVD on the same day entitled Slow Century. The DVD contains all their music videos with separate audio commentaries from the band and each of the directors, a 90-minute documentary on the band directed by Lance Bangs, plus two live concerts, one with switchable camera angles, and hidden features.

As a huge Pavement fan, this has me absolutely giddy! That's a lot of material their releasing. They should both be out October 22.

Manny, I already got the Strokes the other day. I guess I wasn't clear.

I don't know about you liking W.K. though. Unless Def Leppard/Bon Jovi-meets-Pantera is something you think you could get into.

Oh, sorry, I misunderstood.

Come on Freak, I am hurt that you would think I wouldn't like Andrew W.K. I know that I am more slanted towards techno/electronica and alternative artists like Radiohead, Coldplay, and Beck, but if it has guitar and great licks, then 99% of the time I am gonna like it.

What intrigues me about "I Get Wet" is that it has memorable hooks but almost a punk-like feel in that the whole CD is only 35 minutes long. And remember, I have quite a few punk CDs!

Anyway, I am now going to get this CD in about 20 minutes. I'll let you know sometime tomorrow if you were right about me not liking it.:p ;)

The dB's??? Did you say the dB's??? Thought I was the only one who remembered them... Like This is one of the greatest pop records ever. So, of course, it's out of print.

My girlfriend's mad about Wilco, too.

White Stripes are cool. Got turned on to them through their very good Dylan covers. Saw them at Rudyard's about a year ago. Good stuff.

Stands for Decibels is my favourite, but Like This is great too. If you can believe this, Peter Holsapple was driven to *working in a Borders* in New Orleans a few years back. A friend of mine worked with him. Sucks that they weren't really appreciated by, well, anyone...

I haven't heard much Hives/Vines. I did see a Hives video and liked it and I saw a Vines video and hated it (too Green Day). I hate the way that kid sticks out his tounge. White Stripes are cool but nothing can touch TURBONEGRO .

Freak,

I have listened all the way through "I Get Wet" twice now.

It was more than worthy of a purchase.

He reminds me of Rancid (with the songs being sing-along) and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones (with the horns in some of the songs) crossed with early Metallica or Pantera or someone like that that plays really heavy and loud.

Yes, the lyrics are not original, but I have never been one to get something for lyrics.

When I heard the first couple of seconds of the first track, the first thought that came to my mind was "explosive".

If I had to list my top 5 CDs of this year (meaning they came out this year), in no particular order:

"A Rush of Blood to the Head" - Coldplay
"18" - Moby
"Sea Change" - Beck
"Up" - Peter Gabriel
"I Get Wet" - Andrew W.K.

Is that your attempt to make him seem legitimate? ;)

AWK is the ultimate party rocker. These reviews from Amazon are better:

"...it's cheesy new wave meets spiky metal but delivered with such self-conscious force that it's almost bubblegum. Think of the gargantuan riffs of "Detroit Rock City" smeared with Flock of Seagulls-style synth while some manic propagandist hollers himself hoarse over top."

"Described as sounding like, 'Van Halen brawling with the Beastie Boys circa 'Licensed to Ill', with Elton John hammering away at the piano & Motley Crue spiking the drinks'."

Quit trying to link him with respectable artists...AWK is all about having fun!

lol...yes, he is. I can't get "Party Hard" out of my head.

The sad thing is that I like almost all of those other artists that Andrew is said to be like, especially A Flock of Seagulls (I sorta don't see that comparison, but anyway). Not a big fan of Reginald Dwight, though.

Consider this a turning point in my "stuffiness" about music. You have helped loosen me up, Freak!
