If you can say that "Bush type of Christians debate whether they (Catholics) are actually Christians"... then you wouldn't be opposed to the statement that Muslims are actively trying to murder anyone who isn't Muslim without clarifying that it isn't only a minority.

I wouldn't know what Protestants pray for, but I seriously doubt that they don't care what happens to Iraqis. After all, don't "those people" favor trying to rebuild and aid Iraq more than liberals who just want to leave?

    It was just a joke.

I guess those of us in the trenches, tell them. Sort of like surgeons in the operating room.

What was the movie with William Heard, I believe, in which the surgeon always played this C & W song "Why don't we just get drunk and screw?" Perhaps it was just the refrain.

I think humor, perhaps even sacrastic can help defuse things at times.

Perhaps, it is just a failing on my part.

The band Human League: "I'm onlly human A man,of flesh and blood, born to make mistakes"

    or close to that.

Islam desperately needs some "Johnny come latelys" as "evil" as Protestants.

    There's my derail attempt.

Since you are in the trenches, does it ever occur to you that people's choices have more impact on their lives than government policies?

Too confused to reread enough times to understand.

I am just speaking from the old style Catholiicism, pre Vatican II, if you even know what that was.

    Sorry, I will try better.

I guess I got overly relaxed.

    Again. so sorry.

Can you suggest a good retraining school for such comprehension?

Actually I agree wrt to some needed reforms of Islam. Though I know little about it. Of course, I think Christianity, particular of the Southern Protestant sytle need reforms, too.

I know a lot more Southern Protestants, though I probably know a few dozen Muslims. Actually I tend to get along better with the Muslims, though granted they are not as far as I know, in theTaliban or Al Qaeda. My wife, who shares my politics, was wondering about one guy, though I am sure she was just being paranoid. He did suddenly visit us from Pakistan a month or two fefore 911. An old political friend from U of H.

Come to think of it, he is not too religious. He was worried because his son told the people at his public school in Islaamabad that he did not believe in any God. Our friend also was organizing a defense for another guy who was imprisoned for blasphemy against, Mohammed , I believe.

You can do better at at derailing.

Much as I disagree with TJ politically, he is a master at derailing. Though I believe he has stayed on topic a few times.

    I see.

You tell a joke, it is to defuse the situation.

Anyone else tells a joke who doesnt agree with you it is to derail the thread.

Good question. I haven't read it in about 30 years.

I do go to weddings, funerals, baptisms etc. There is one heretic on my wife's side of the family that converted to Protestantism of a Southern variety. I went to three marriages of their daughters at their church.

Two of the three kids even have margaritas, other drinks and dance as they get older. Only one is staying to the more straight and narrow. They all married within the same sect. A hint: one went to a college that is private, is noted for being beaten horribly and frequenty by UT and is located close to Cindy's Sheehan's property in Crawford TX.

Ok. but I was joking about derailing the thead.

I forget are you a Catholic or a Protestant?

    It is getting late.

I think I'll read about UT sports or the Rockets. It is more relaxing.

so you quote something you havent read in 30 years and which you are in the dark about to back up your point? If you don't know what the Bible says about wars, why would you use it to try to backup a view that you hold on the topic?

Thank you for the personal details of your relatives' lives, unfortunately I didn't ask for that. If you want to make snide remarks about Southern Baptists, you don't have to hide it behind stories about your relatives and then pass it off as joking later on after you read this post. This is D&D, you can just make a thread and say what's on your mind without hiding behind pretenses of asking "innocent" questions or wistful tales about your relatives.

You're an adult, we all are and we all know what each other's opinions are and how we generaly post. I don't have a problem with you personally, but I don't like it when someone tries to insult my intelligence. If you say an opinion, stand by it, don't go hiding behind cutesy remarks after the fact when someone talks to you about it.

    I am a Christian.

Well I aspire to it but do a piss poor job at it. Then again one of the benefits of Buddhism is that it is OK to do a piss poor job at faith.

As far as their not being many Buddhist Rox fans I'm guessing there are probably quite a few. I've noticed that many Christians and Muslims tend to wear their religion as an identity and will make sure people know that they are Christian or Muslim. Most Buddhists don't as while it might be an important part of their lives its not something that they look at as an indentifier of who they are.

I apologize if this comes off as a slam against Christianity or Islam and not saying that is a bad thing but its a different approach to religion.

This was brought up earlier but I there are many Protestants who are liberals and want to leave Iraq.

Protestant and liberal are not mutually exclusive.

For that matter there is some question whether by staying in Iraq if we really are helping the Iraqis.
