I spent way too much time at Kaboom in the early 90's. My favorite bar was Velvet Elvis...until they were sued by the Presley estate. Then it just became a craphole.

I can't remember the name of the place on 1960W. I used to go there a lot, too. It's in the same strip center as a huge head shop that I can't remember either.

17th Street was cool. Nothing beat $.50 Thursday's at the good ole Jolly Fox.

I remember both Avalon and XCess. I dressed all fru fru with the Oak Tree/ VJ's style suits/ties back then so I was down. I thank god to this day I have no pictures of me in some of those outfits.

Was XCess the under 18 bar or was that XTC?

It was Club Hippo. I think there slogan was something like "Be Nocternal".

But prior to that I am pretty sure DD is right, it was called Fizz in 86.

XCess was in the same strip mall as Network and Avalon and World's Gym. From what I've heard, you were given a tab of X when you paid your cover when it originally opened. X was legal until 86.

DD, did you ever make a club on sixth street called Enzos? I had some friends that were at UT and San Marcus in the late 80's and we occasionally made the trip to Austin and Enzos.

Is Club Some still open in Houston? I always seemed to end up there somehow.

That place was boom or bust -- seems like that club was always full of Vietnamese gang members... I could be thinking of another club though.

Another one I forgot. NRG. It was my second club to visit with my fake ID after I discovered The Lizard Lounge, or maybe it was the other way around. I was 15, drinking, tabbing and forgetting everything from the night before. Then doing it all again the next night.

Growing up completely sucks and is overrated.

I believe that might be it. I saw Stabbing Westward there after winning tickets to some Halloween bash from 104.

Of course I went to Enzos....heck I used to be a bartender on 6th street at Club Sandwhich and The 6th Street Country Club.

All those 6th street places were fun.

    Maggie Maes
    Toulouse
    The Ritz

Just up and down the block was a blast.

I even bartended after college at Dave and Busters in Houston on Richmond...I became one of the Head Bartenders there.....that place was insane for the first 7 months or so.....so much mullah !!!!

But ultimately got married, settled down, and moved back to Austin to make video games....

I used to go there a lot back in the late '90s. I remember during that time, raves were really big in Houston and everyone wore those gigantic wide leg jeans. All of my friends would take tabs but all I did was drink. So, what did I do? I made each of my friends stuff beers in their socks under those massive jeans. If I had 3 friends with me - that was a six pack. I rememember my friends being like, "Dude, hurry up and take this, my ankles are freezing." :p

Sorry to bring back a *closed* thread...but I was just going through a huge *evaluation* collection of music titled "190.MP3's.Late.80's.Houston.Club" and stumbled across a few other great tracks that might not have been mentioned here. I am so making a CD of this stuff and forcing my kids to listen to it in the car. :)
