The problem with Beck is that he is on Fox NEWS, not the comedy channel.

That defines him as a propagandist, not an entertainer. He spews misinformation under the disguise of information like an Orwellian villain.

The sad thing is that is serves Rupert Murdoch so well both politically and economically.

This is perfect. basso claims he's never seen Beck, but he's confident that Beck is the equivalent of Olbermann Maddow, Maher, Matthews.

this is exactly right. we're passing off entertainment as news. as serious commentary in a venue where you would expect to find it.

I read an interview with Dave Matthews where he was talking about this...and frankly, despite being a fan, he surprised me with how eloquently he put it:

"We give the podium to a lot of people who shouldn't have the podium. The message that's delivered the loudest and in the most entertaining way is the one that we're going to put on because that's what we want. We want ratings more than we want to deliver information. That's just where the culture's gotten.

There's no way that Walter Cronkite, as a young journalist, no way Ed Murrow would be hired to do news today. Not a chance."

    i'd definitely throw in maher.

but not chris matthews. matthews is nowhere near the ballpark of a glenn beck in terms of this kind of crap.

great point. beck would be more cut out for a show like maher's, i guess. i don't take either one of them very seriously.

He loves his country so much that he is willing to lie to its people to make issues out of non-issues!

He lied and said that no other president had been sworn in using a bible. He lied and claimed that Obama's science czar proposed forcing abortions and putting sterilants in drinking water to help control the population. He lied and claimed that the Cash for Clunkers website's privacy act granted the government access to consumers' information on their computers when it was actually the website for dealers, not consumers. This is just off the top of my head, there are quite a few more outrageous lies Glenn Beck has thrown out.

But hey, these aren't lies if they're true in Imaginationland, right?!

Maybe I’m giving him too much credit, but perhaps he’s making a larger point that the people who spend so much time hating him and reacting to the idiotic things he says are falling right into his trap and giving him exactly what he wants – ATTENTION.

Attention (positive or negative) = ratings = TV shows = book deals = $$$$. Not that hard to figure out, really.

Anyway, count me in as a conservative that absolutely LOATHES the guy and his whole silly ‘movement’….along with every other political talk-radio host on the planet. These buffoons and their tired and boring clichés don’t speak for me or my political views. AM radio is completely saturated with these troglodytes on the national, state, and local level. The only people dumber than the hosts are the low-life’s that actually feel the need to call in.

I mean, love him or hate him (I haven’t listened to a minute of his show since 1996), at the very least Rush Limbough is somewhat original. The rest of these bozo’s (Beck, Shawn Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, Randy Savage, Dan Patrick, etc.) are just trying to get as many of his listeners as they can by repeating everything he says. And don’t think all these guys aren’t in collusion together and laughing all the way to the bank.

I have a family member who just worships Beck for being a “breath of fresh air” who really “tells it like it is!!” and all those other dull talk-radio clichés. I have to just bite my lip every time this person mentions him because I don’t believe in fighting with family about politics.

I honestly can’t believe so many people are giving him so much attention. I’m telling you….he’s getting exactly what he wants and laughing all the way to the bank.

Call me closed-minded, I have a hard time respecting anybody who thinks Jesus is from Missouri.

At the bar watching football on monday night I over heard this 27 year old chick brought up Glenn Beck.

She said she loved him and in her eyes it was 1. God 2. Jesus 3. Her Parents 4. Glenn Beck

I wanted to tell her it was no wonder she was divorced because she was both annoying and ignorant but she wasn't talking to me so I let it slide.

He also tells you exactly what he thinks instead of showing clips, graphs and chalk boards that lead you to some ridiculous conclusion before stopping short so that he can say he never said the thing that he is trying to make you believe.

People may disagree with Bill Maher but it's usually because they're pissed that he's right and not particularly humble about it.

Ok, I'll have to watch him for a few minutes to see what all the commotion is about. I doubt I will agree much with him.

It's that whole schtick about repeating the same lie over and over again for it to become truth.

Having a chorus of morons parroting off each other in primetime legitimizes their routine for their viewers. Partly it's because their viewers don't know any better.

Mostly, it's because they don't want to know any better.

I don't like Glenn Beck because he might have raped and murdered a girl in 1990. He has not refuted this claim, and questions have been asked. I cannot support a child rapist and murderer.
