I always use a straw when eating out. I hate the ice hitting my teeth when drinking. Plus I'll echo everything rimrocker said.
It depends. If the waiter brings a straw, i'll use it. But I'm not gonna get out of my way to use one.
I don't use a straw when I drink sodas because I tend to drink it too fast with a straw. Which results in more refills, which results in too much soda, which results in too much sugar. So w/o the straw i satisfy my thirst w/o killing myself.
Got to use it when you drink coffee. Haven't tried it yet, but I will soon. Do not want coffee stains on my teeth.
I always did at restuarants for the sanitary factor. But then a buddy reminded me that the liquid is touching the glass.
If the rim of the glass isnt clean, then Im sure there are other parts of the glass that arent clean either...so basically, youre still drinking fluid that has taken in any sort of "germs" and are drinking it. Whether you use a straw or not is irrelevant then.
I work at a restaurant. The glasses get set and stacked on on counters and shelves that probably aren't very clean which exposes the rim to more germs, and the inside of the glass, when stacked, gets in contact with the exterior of another. The exteriors of the glasses are handled by employees whose hands may not be sanitary. I use a straw because I like it. I have heard that straws cause wrinkles.
This. If they don't give me a straw, I don't ask for one since it's not a big deal (but my fiancée will anyway), but if they do, I use it.
I don't understand how drinking through a straw reduces one's exposure to germs. Paper fast food style cups I normally prefer with a lid (which means a straw) because it adds a little extra stability to the cup when you pick it up. Glass or plastic glasses I never use a straw.
