He was traded from Denver to MINN, which transferred the bird rights as well.

The way I read the CBA, I think he is eligible for full bird....since he has been traded instead of signing as a free agent.

but as a novice CBA guy, I will defer to any of the standard guys on this(Bima, aaeliot,NIKE,etc)

I thought Minnesota signed Brewer using their MLE - http://www.nba.com/timberwolves/news/timberwolves-sign-free-agent-corey-brewer

Yes, that is correct. The Rockets have Early Bird rights on Brewer, and your calculations on the amount they can offer Brewer are accurate.

Nope. Brewer signed a three-year deal (third year player option) with Minnesota in 2013. When the Rockets traded for him, they inherited whatever rights Minnesota had under THAT contract. Since, by waiving his player option, he will only have been under that contract for two years when he hits free agency, the Rockets will only have Early Bird rights on Brewer.

That said, whether he has Early Bird or full Bird rights is probably a moot point, since I doubt he'll demand more than $8 million per from Houston in free agency.
