Oh yeah, forgot to mention that Keith David does the voice of the Arbiter, so that is a big plus for Halo 2.

The Flood in Halo 1 got everyone. You think you are just fighting the covenant and then snap these guys show up and you are scared as hell.

Why would any "real gamer" appreciate & respect halo? (its b/c of these lame console game that killing the North American competitive online community) Halo at best is an above avg sci-fi FPS game. Its not competitive at all (nothing is competitive on console, there is no exception)

Halo is kinda like CS, its simplistic/easy/slow gameplay appeal to kids.

Its just freakin sad thinking how competitive gaming in north ameirca is like total crap compare to asia/euro.

Nice. I checked out the intro cinematic for Halo 3, and I thought his voice sounded familiar (probably heard it before in other trailers too). He sure does a lot of voice-work for video games, more than I thought he did anyway.

BTW, I'm going to play through the Marathon trilogy (played about 45 minutes of the first one earlier), but does anyone suggest checking out Parthways into Darkness? Apparently, it is the spiritual prequel to Marathon, and while seemingly unrelated to both Marathon and Halo (this game takes place in 1994 and involves saving the world from a godlike being I believe), apparently there are some things that connect the three. The game is supposedly very difficult and unforgiving, plus it doesn't seem like it is as easy to get running in Windows (or even Intel-Macs) as the Marathon games. I think I found some directions that might make it easy to get it going, but I haven't bothered to test it yet. If it turns out to be a lot of work, I think I'll just skim through the story points and various chapters in the game (found a couple of sites that have a lot of info and screens from the game).

I hope you boys don't have a gf/wife... I really hate it when my bf goes into his Halo zone. The only time I can ever get a hold of him then is if I come over. That kid plays 1-3 hours at a time. I hate that game.

No offense taken since your part of the typical north american gamer that isn't expose to the competitive gaming world like in asia or europe.

But some of us play game competitively b/c is fun and we enjoy the competition. We enjoy playing vs. other highly skilled player. I personally hate playing vs. AI (since exploiting them is way too easy, and they don't exploit you)

In korea, professional gamer are treated as celebrity (with some top gamer earning half a million US $ a year), and there is like a few dedicated channel just for competitive gaming.

Can you please spoil me the entire story on Halo 3? I have beaten Halo 1 and 2, I don't think I'll get the chance to play 3.

Remember... you stated that Halo isn't competitive AT ALL. Tell that to the OGRE twins, Walshy, Tsquared, Lil' Poison and hundreds of pro players making easily over 100,000 a year. All of the ones I mentioned make over 500,000 a year. A couple of them even make a million a year. USA broadcasts Halo 2 tournaments (different cities)every weekend... check the statistics on Halo 2 online, or even Halo 3 now. And that's not counting all the Gaming/LAN centers across America. So to say it's not competitive AT ALL, please do some research.

YES, and I will still stick by that. Show me a VOD or demo of the tournament, and compare it to that of UT/QUAKE. I was refering to the competitiveness of the gameplay, not to the fact that the game is played competitively or not. Just like CS, the game is popular and played competitively since there are sponsor, but the game is not competitive at all relative to the fast paced FPS such as UT/QUAKE.

here a random halo 3 video i found of youtube:

    <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/XgoNGgpQc6Y"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/XgoNGgpQc6Y" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

here is a random quake video:

    <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/zmItEP5fgDA"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/zmItEP5fgDA" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

So the faster the speed of the game is, the more competitive the game is...

Just because Halo looks slow, doesn't mean it's easy. There are factors like timing, aiming, what weapons to use, etc.

Come on now. We know your already ignorant but stupid as well? And then to say your sticking by it?! Sad. People like you end up looking like Emmit Till round these parts with that type...

Like I said before... research first.

Don't be completely oblivious to what's going on outside of your world homie...

Go to a tournament or watch USA on Saturdays or even go to mlgpro.com before you say it's not competitive... AT ALL.

P.S. - then you show a clip of two people playing Halo 3 for the first time ever? At least get a tournament video Forrest!

maybe you could direct a video of console gameplay for halo for me?

Like I said, its the "gameplay" that is not competitive.

I know well enought there are pro gamer in the console world. (hell, as long as there is sponser & cash prizes tournament,it won't matter what game it is, there will be pro) All the game that you see on major event are there b/c of the game dev/publisher's support ($$$$$). It works differ now, it doesn't matter how great or bad your game is, if you have the $, you can get your game into those event.

btw, do give me a link to a "specific" video of competitive console gameplay if you could.
