I'm really curious as to why Ron hasn't been in the post more. Especially with the 2nd team in. He could set up some open 3's for Brooks and Barry if they try and collapse on him.
Ron's shooting is so much better than what i thought. With his feet spot up, shoulder square up, his shots are as good as money. Only problem is, he will always takes a few wild shot. Currently for me, i think he is shooting too many 3p. He is making them at a high clip, but i thought he would do most of his damage in the post.
I agree when you're wide open take the shot, but if you're missing them after a while you should drive in and take it to the basket no matter how wide open you are.
Ron's a hell of a spot up shooter. But that's about it. He can't really create his own perimeter shot like Tracy can.
Ron's shooting hasn't been promising so far, except for his 3pt shot. Versus Boston and Thunder he shouldn't have taken so much because in the first game was 2/4, the 2nd 3/4 so i guess he thought he got it rolling and shot 2/7 and 3/10 the next two games. He should drive more to the basket and stop going for the fade away shot. Ron makes it harder on himself than he has to. I don't understand either why they don't post him up since he can easily beat his man with strength and go for the lay-up or draw the foul. We've seen it, but just not enough and usually when he goes 1-on-1 he likes to go away from the baseline, draw a bit of contact and shoot the fade away. It's not pretty and the shot rarely goes in so it needs a lot of work. Artest needs to be smarter than that but so far his defence has been good so you take the good with the bad. Similar thing with Vernon Maxwell, his defence was good night in, night out but his shooting was questionable at times because he liked to jack up threes and shoot fade aways too while he could've easily blew past his man and get a lay-up or dunk. Also, people have been talking about why Artest hasn't been bashed for poor shooting while T-mac gets bashed when he has a terrible shooting night; my guess is cause Artest makes it up on defense. We all know T-mac never plays much defense or people just have a man crush on Artest or something.
Ron should be a spot up shooter/crashing the offensive boards when Tmac is in the game. When Tmac is out Artest should facilitate the offense by attacking gaps and getting into the lane for his own shot or a kick out. Artest gets a good portion of his buckets by rebounding his own short range miss. I'd like to see that alot more! We have enough one dimensional players, so Ron shouldn't settle for jumpshots with his skillset and bodytype. Our offense in general just needs more movement.
imo ron's shootin is fine, well, he did a good job guarding PP thats most important for him. sometimes u just have2 shoot the open 3p and hes a better 3p shooter than tmac tbh.
People bash Battier's offense constantly even though he plays his heart out on defense every game. Ron is the second coming, so he can do no wrong. Maybe it's still his honeymoon period. I don't know.
You got it. Where Ron gets into trouble on offense is when he catches, then puts the ball on the floor and shoots a jumper. If he is open on the catch, and sets and shoots, his shot is fine. When he has a man on him on the perimeter and he tries to shoot a jumper off the dribble, his percentage goes down dramatically. He needs to either shoot the open jumper off the catch or when he puts the ball on the floor, dribble with the intention of getting to the rim and finishing or dishing. He should not put the ball on the floor with the idea of getting a dribble and trying to shoot some fade off 18 footer. If you will watch the video of his shots so far this season, extract out all the shots where he took a contested or semi-contested jumper from the perimeter off the dribble, his shooting efficiency goes up dramatically. Understandable is the point that he is going to have to take some of those shots as the shot clock is winding down and we can't get anything else, just as Tracy does. Our offense still has a ton of room for growth with guys figuring out how they can be the most efficient as a unit. Artest, for example, is so effective on the post up, that it is just plain crazy not to put him down there when he is in the game. He should not be operating perimeter in when he is out there with Brooks/Barry and Yao and McGrady are out. When he is out there with Yao and McGrady, there is no need for him to take contested dribble jumpers from distance. He should be spotted up for the 3 or he should be on the block with McGrady spotted up from 3. In other words, when the Big 2 are on the floor, we should be able to get a much better look than Artest taking a dribble jumper from 20 feet. That's the worst shot in basketball, 1 foot inside the 3 point line.
Get use to it folks. Ron doesn't shoot high percentages. But he does so much more on the court that it kind of offsets that.
I just watched the december game of last year @ sacramento and Artest was relentless. He turned two steals into fast break monster dunks, posted up and attacked the basket at will where he usually drew contact. This is something he needs to do on a regular basis instead of going for the three. I'm also suprised RA is not running any plays for him since they're not running the motion offense; Artest is best served on the post and not outside the three point line. I agree he takes a lot of wide open threes but jacking up 10 is too much, just take a few and use the rest to attack the basket. You got to have some balance and since Artest likes the challenge, he should've done this against the Celtics. He really dissappointed me and also has something to prove tonight. Let's hope he and Yao come out blazing because winning in Portland is not that easy, Jazz just won by 7 points and needed a good 4th quarter to pull it off. Don't let the absense of Oden fool you, the Trailblazers are good and the Rockets need all weapons tonight, though they're on the 2nd of a back-to-back.
Reggie Miller he ain't... thank god. He's competent enough as it is though. Every player is going to have bad shooting games. At least he's great at creating contact and getting to the line when we need him to. Oh, and the D thing. I'm not worried, in fact I'm kind of happy with how the board is taking a loss.
