That place is great! I've only eaten there a handful of times, usually on weekend nights after a few beers at the G-Man. Great pizzas, what else do you recommend there?

Originally posted by rimbaud Ah, I see. Makes sense. I have not heard of Mia's...but I don't really look inside the loop for good Vietnamese, either.
I'm spelling that wrong. I think it's Mai's. It's popular because it is open late night on Milam. I also mixed up Jenny's Cafe. I didn't mean it was close to Van Loc, but rather close to the original Kim Son, off of Jefferson?...it is less than 6mos old. I just got tired of accompanying friends who wanted an afterhour dinner and Mai's was open, and stop going or would just get spring rolls, which are hard to screw up. Which ones are your favorite.
My wife is quite partial to the Chicken Cuchinetti. It's not on the menu anymore, but if you ask really nice they usually can whip up a plate of it for you.
I think he was talking about Mai's, which is pretty good, open VERY late, and chock full of gals from Treasures at 3am. Number 48 is great, and big enough for two people. During the Spurs - Rockets series, I ordered some nachos from Mama's Cafe on Westheimer. There was a huge hair in it so I sent it back. The next on came out and my wife found a FRUIT OF THE LOOM underwear label in it. Trust me, I will never, ever, ever eat there again. The manager paid for all of our drinks and food but I didnt want anything to eat after that so it wasnt much of a consolation. Plus I was on antibiotics so I was drinking tea.
The food at Zula is good, but its more ambiance versus quality of food. Bossa downtown is better. Though their Sea Bass was their best dish. The Mojito's are great and its a perfect date environment. Americas : Can't Go Wrong with the Churrasco Steak or the Chilean Sea Bass (till all chef's stopped serving it recently) Ling and Javier in Hotel Derek mixes the dinner with the bar area and the food really isn't that unreasonably priced. A place that I went to a few weeks back on South Post Oak lane was Masroff's (sp?). It looks like a House from the outside, very nice more relaxed older atmosphere and the food was excellent. Maggiano's is ok. I don't like pasta much, but the Veal Shank was great, but its not on the menu. I don't like the table setup though, with the big checkered tables. A great little place over on Shephard near Allen Parkway is a restaurant called Tela's. Wonderful food from Mexico city. Another for Mexican food would be Las Alamedas, more "Mexican" food versus Tex-Mex. Or try Mi Luna if you want spanish food with Entertainment in Rice Village! From other cities that I've visited, Houston may not have the best bar scene, but the restaurant's here can almost compare with any other city in the US.
Bombay Palace is da bomb. Their Tandoori Shrimp is the best I've ever had. Another great Indian place I just heard about is called Indika. Anyone been to it. Not really typical Indian. Its rather Americanized Indian. Like a fusion of Tonys and Bombay Palace. I believe the sous chef from Cafe Annies is the owner and she has done an admirable job. Been their once. The lamb sucked hard core, but the shrimp and chicken were just mouth watering. Yummy!
my aunt and uncle have raved about this place... i've heard nothing but good things from a lot of people
