$249 for a 4 GB iPod with no docking cradle is a ripoff.

If are splicing the human genome ya, you'll notice. If you are checikng email and surfing this site, probably not.

A better investment would be a G4 with a TON of (3rd party) RAM so that you can open a thousand windows and never notice a difference.

Think of RAM as a Dinner table, the larger the amount of RAM the bigger the surface area of the table, the more "plates" or applications can be on the table at once.

Even on a G4 with 256 running OS X 10.0 when it first came out we had HUNDREDS of Applications open and never crashed the system, and that was 10.0

Mhz (or Ghz these days) is basically measuring how fast your computer can crunch 0's and 1's, how fast can it think.

For gaming, you should also look into the fastest video card available for increased frames per second get way better than you'll ever think you'll need. This is more frustration than anything to get frame skipping or worse, having a game not open at all because you save money on a video card.

OH and there is Mac Users Group that meets at Rice, and no, you will never see me there. Tech Support people avoid end users like the plaque. j/k
