Most of the issues in this thread were brought up in the other thread but since we're rehashing things I did want to bring this up again.

For those of you who feel the robbers deserved to get killed would you support the death penalty for robbery?

Under the logic that they needed to be killed or else they might commit other worse crimes should also apply that even if they go to jail they might escape or after they are released they would commit other crimes so accepting that worse case scenario then they death penalty should be the penalty for robbery as that is the only penalty to prevent the worst case scenario outlined above.

You couldn't be more wrong. Did you notice how short of a time period went by between him prepping the gun and the shots? The burglars were very close to him, and could likely be viewed as a threat to him - they were shot from 15 feet away.

The self-defense thing doesn't matter, anyway. The flaw in your logic is that your personal moral code does not equal the law in the state of Texas. Law in Texas states that you can not only defend your personal property with lethal force, but also that of a 3rd party, if you feel you would have acted that way if it were your property.

Don't like the law? Don't rob in Joe Horn's neighborhood. Those burglars came to steal the neighbor's silver, but only left with lead.

we don't even know what the real story is in the sean taylor case and its a different situation because the burglars weren't threatening anyone in the joe horn case.

    two separate situations.

btw, since we want to bring in all different senarios my parent's house was broken into when I was 17, they stole a television and a stereo and all my cds, I had just gotten a cd player for the first time.

my neighbor saw the guys, but he didn't know they were burglars. I wish my neighbor had called the police, but i have never wished someone died over things that can be replaced. was it upsetting to have someone break in, sure. was it even more upsetting to not have the neighbor do anything, definitely, but I'm glad no one is dead.

the thing that bothers me most about this issue, is that most of the people who want to see someone shot over material things, probably claim to be christians.

I'm disturbed by the values in this country.

my father was once robbed at gun point in our front yard, he was followed home one night. I'm sure at the time he wish someone would have killed those guys, twenty seven years later, it probably doesn't matter.

so anyone who thinks I have sympathy for criminals is mistaken, that is not the perspective I'm coming from. you can go to these extreme senarios to make it look like Horn was protecting life, but the bottom line is he shot someone over material possessions.

"An eye for an eye" is in the bible.

Stealing is a horrible crime, these guys decided to risk their life by trying to take from others.

I am sorry they made that poor choice and it got them killed.

But, if you are gong to rob someone's house there is a chance it could end this way, either by the homeowner coming in and carrying a gun, or a neighbor etc, or possibly some trigger happy cop.

The perpetrators were in control, they took the risk, they paid the price.

Maybe the next set of burglers will think twice because of this...

I think it was understandable and pardonable that he shot the burglers, but this is just stupid.

    All depends on interpetation.

Cutting off a hand for stealing bread was common practice back then.....I get that you think life is more valuable than stuff, and I agree with you to a point.

I just don't have any sympathy for people that get shot stealing, sure they got more than they deserve as far as penalty goes, but they were the ones in control, they made the choice to take the risk.

    And they went bust.

"Eye for an eye" is not a Christian value. Jesus changed that.

I would not advocate that they "deserved" it. They accepted some risks when they broke the law. Namely, that this is Texas and most everyone owns a gun...

Does anyone deserve to be robbed?

I live about 3 miles from where Joe Horn does.

    1. If people want to protest over the situation, do it at the Pasadena Police station. Quannel X was wrong for dragging people in to that neighborhood.

    2. Joe Horn should go to jail. If you listen to those tapes. Joe Horn was told repeatedly to stay inside and let his hot temper get the best of him. The prisons are full of people who made stupid decisions when they were angry.

    3. Your own property is not worth killing someone over let alone your neighbors property.

    4. Joe Horn has no defense. If he was in harm's way, it was because of his own stupid actions. If he kept his ass inside like he was repeatedly told to do, those guys would most likely still be alive and probably in jail for burgulary.

I wonder what the Dalai Lama thinks of people killing others over property.
