What if they weren't home invaders? They would still be alive.

I suspect that you are planning a "riverdance" style routine with your drug lord brethren. It'll go well with the tapdance number. ;)

I like how the fact that they were involved in a Colombian crime ring is supposed to make things better. I'm sure that neighborhood sleeps safe knowing they pissed off a Colombian crime ring. If only there were some sort of agency that is devoted to handling criminals for the common man, we wouldn't have to shoot them in the backs with shotguns (necessary)

You might've heard this saying "The road to Hell is paved with good intentions."

I'm sure Joe Horn did what he thought was right but that still doesn't mean what he did wasn't wrong.

Man, I pity the fool who tries to break into Mr. Meowgi Jr.'s moon-based house.

For irony's sake, I present a Buddhist refresher on The Pancha Shila, or five moral precepts:

    1. Avoid killing, or harming any living thing.

    2. Avoid stealing -- taking what is not yours to take.

    3. Avoid sexual irresponsibility, which for monks and nuns means celibacy.

    4. Avoid lying, or any hurtful speech.

    5. Avoid alcohol and drugs which diminish clarity of consciousness.

My point is that some people are a bit too sure that the police will protect them. Like people who think corporations will always do the right thing for their customers. Actually, they will always do the right thing for their shareholders, because that is where their interests ultimately lie.

30% of all murders in Houston go unsolved. Nationally, that is a very good figure. Numbers are higher the lower down the crime scale you go. If Joe Horn broke the law, as it appears he did, he deserves to do time for felony murder. But the posters who argue that people should never get involved, should never defend themselves because the police will be there to save them… that argument simply is wrong.

I can't speak for others but I've never advocated not getting involved. I've advocated not putting yourself in danger by getting involved.

As with my own case. My neighbor got involved by calling the police and giving them a good description of the robber. That's involvement but one that doesn't potentially put her at risk. So yes stopping crime is important but so is the safety and freedom of your neighbors.

we will never know if they were truly connected, because they were killed before the officer at the scene could arrest them. after arresting them they could have been interrogated thus bringing more criminals into custody.

i'm just glad horn didn't kill the officer who had arrived at the crime scene.

but honestly, how many times does a person catch a burglar in the process. I think in a place like pasadena, if you call the police while a crime is in process, its very reasonable to assume that they will get caught.

They were just about to be stopped when Horn decided to become an executioner.

As I understand it, the statistics do not necessarily show that to be true though I don't have the absolutely relevant statistics in front of me, and I'm not sure that they exist in exactly that form. But for my point it really doesn't mater. In general, like I said, I think Horn is guilty.

My core point is that I just think people who are posting in this thread are putting far too much faith in the universal power of the police as a force of order and good.

It's ridiculous that you can't admit the cop outside wasn't about to stop them....
