Many rational Rockets and NBA fans have no idea why some people get so worked up over nonsense like this.

Imagine for a minute I do not like Jeremy Lin for reasons other than basketball.

The easiest way to bash him is to pretend to be "Asian" and write a bunch of dumb comments pretending to be a LOF.

Most likely half or more of the comments that offend us the most are from people who hate Lin because he is Asian.

Most of Lin's true fans are primarily: Chrisitans, Ivy League guys (not many people who went to Harvard ended up in the NBA, Asian Americans and many of these people work and do not spend crazy time online in sports forums they just root for their guy, Rockets fans who actually think Lin is very good, etc.

 

That explains the wackiness lol

 

There is an element of truth to this. Not all, but I'm guessing that many of the most zealous fans look to Lin the Icon instead of Lin the Athlete. These are likely young Asian guys who justifiably are fed up with being constantly ignored, ridiculed, and/or emasculated in American society. This is a very real phenomenon that never gets addressed because Asian Americans are only 5% of the total population and don't have enough political power to ever hold anyone seriously accountable for making racially insulting remarks, at least not to the degree that Black, Latino, or Jewish groups can.

In Lin, they finally have the most mainstream figure whom they can totally relate to (in a way they couldn't with the likes of, say, Yao). Their zealotry wouldn't be as extreme if there were more role models to look up to, but there aren't, partly because of the truth is that America isn't too keen on promoting the image of Asian men.

I'm not saying that this is any reason to wish injuries or other grave misfortunes on people, but there is a legitimate source of grievance where this extremism is emanating from.

 

Lin fans are a disease and they need to be purged.

No one has to do anything to make the delusional group of Lin fans look bad.

It seems LOF's have moved to their own forums. So why are LOH's and LOFH's still complaining here on Clutchfans? Why don't you LOH's and LOFH's move over to those forums and troll them there instead of trolling everyone else here and bringing down the quality of the board here?

 

They miss the action with the extremist LOFs so much that they had to go to another site to bring it here.

I don't doubt it. I placed my Jeremy Lin bobblehead thingy in front of the OP, and it looked away in shame.

 

This made my blood pressure go up... Please don't do this again I'd rather not know these idiots exist.

 

It is kinda like they think of what the main bad guy in Space Jam wanted to do to Michael by chaining him up and playing for all eternity, except instead of playing they believe McHale is trying to bench his perennial superstar because he is Asian. This doesn't represent his fan base as a whole but these "fans" are delusional. I know there is some decent and fair-minded LOF's out there.
