No. The Longhornians seem to get it for the most part. The majority of the group that supports VY is something different completely. The dude was basically wiping off his tears, eating chicken wings with a gun in his lap. Fisher had to lead a search party to save the guys life (exaggerating but lulz), he's mentally weak.
You'd think Mack Brown would give him a job. Or at the very least some crazed Longhorn fan could hook him up selling cars or something.
It's a shame. That game against USC was magical. It really seemed that VY would be able to take that game up to the next level. But being drafted by the Titans was the worst thing which could have happened to him. Too bad.
Yeah you'd think he could be back in a kitchen somewhere in Texas cooking up some of his sausage at least. 20 years later someone that knows who he is comes into the dinner. The owner calls to the back "hey Vince, there's a young man here says he knows who you are". Vince comes out, weights about 320, nice smile on his face, humbled, pudgy face, says "hello sir, did you like your meal" - other guy is like "holy crap, you're VY! I went to UT. I'm the offensive coordinator at UTEP, would you like to be our QB coach". Vince is all, "nah, nah, that's behind me," ::walks off in distress, tears forming:: Yada, yada, yada he wins a title at UTEP (who is now in the Big 12, UH still in CUSA btw) as OC when he's 60 and it's turned into a Disney movie.
Vince was drafted before the rookie pay scale went into effect. Being taken #3 overall because Bud Adams had a Burnt Orange Boner was the best thing that ever happened to him. If the Titans hadn't taken him at 3, he would have slipped to, at best, 10. You know what the difference in money that would have cost him? $12 million guaranteed (at minimum). That's more than the sum of every contract Vince has signed since he left Nashville. On top of that, you think Vince would have torn it up in Arizona or perhaps Denver? You could kiss whatever endorsement deals and subsequent contract offers he got as a result of playing for a winning franchise in Tennessee goodbye if he ends up in one of those sad-sack situations. It's time to let go of the victim mentality.
In a couple of years or so when VY gives up on football, I bet he accepts a job from somebody in Austin or Houston. I still get chill bumps when watching highlights of that game, which remains my favorite in college FB history. Remember the year prior when UT was down 35-7 to Oklahoma St and they scored 49 consecutive points? Those two seasons were indeed magical. IMO, the worst thing that happened was him being named AFC Rookie of the Year. It perpetuated the idea in his mind he could succeed in the NFL without dedication to his craft as in HS and college.
Mac should probably give his half his contract.People were calling for Mack's head since he couldn't beat OU or win a conference championship.
Yea blame it all on everyone else. Nothing is Vince's fault. Geez, who's this guy trying to be? TMac?!?
Some swanky Austin restaurant will hire him as a host/greeter. Remember kids...you heard it here first!
It sounds like the problem isn't just that Young is out of work but that he didn't manage his money well. Getting a job now will help him in the short term but he needed better money management. This does seem to be a widespread problem with pro-athletes.
78% of all NFL players go broke and/or bankrupt within 5 years of retirement. They think they have a lottery ticket but their success brings so many issues, like taking care of family, friends, associates and/or leeches, trusting the wrong people with their money, child support issues since so many groupies pop up and chances for sex are easy (and in turn children as a by-product), perhaps a drug habit, perhaps a gambling habit and legal/financial issues that come with that. Then some try to live the "cool" lifestyle and spend on excessive luxuries, both in high quality and quantity and also make bad investments, sometimes no matter how hard they try to make good ones. Did I mention that the more more you make, the more taxes you pay? Suddenly, instead of being filthy rich, you're in a mountain of debt. Issues and stories like this are perhaps something we need to get across to the youth and that goes for those wanting to be entertainers as well (MC Hammer anyone?). Lottery winners have it much worse often times.
m I the only one that finds irony in tinny slurping VY up while despising McGrady? Both extremely talented athletes who never could find the heart to put in the work required to be the best of their chosen sports, and eventually quit on their teams. cue random pics and stupid 80s and 90s references....
R2K. VY- went to my Alma mater and won a National Championship, then he went to the Titans, who use to be my favorite football team Oilers McGrady - from Florida, won nothing for the Rockets, quit on them, plus had an army of 13 year olds from europe and china pretending to be Rockets fans invade clutchfans and declare that he should have his numbered retired with Hakeem and Moses What do you think is the difference?
