Im all for trading up for a QB in the draft...if the guy's name isnt Mariota. He's not worth the price tag to move up that much. I think Winston will be more successful on the field than Mariota, but he needs to grow up. IMO, Cook will be a better NFL QB than Mariota. If Cook is available around where we are going to pick, I'd prefer trading up a few spots (example 19 to 14) in order to get him. I would love to go into next season with Cook, Fitz, and Savage as the 3. If we have Cook, there is no point in spending money on Mallett, unless the Texans are willing to part ways with Savage...which would be surprising to me. If the Texans resign Mallett, then I think that's a strong indication that they arent high on any QBs in the top 2 rounds of the draft.
The analysis obviously needs to go deeper. Beginning with 2004, so 11 years, you have: Brady, Brady, Ben, Manning, Manning, Ben, Brees, Rogers, Manning, Flacco, Wilson With the exception of possibly Flacco and Wilson, all of those guys are absolute HOFs. And Flacco and Wilson are unique cases in that Flacco definitely plays elite in stretches, and Wilson has elite level leadership and game management skills, while also being a really good QB. So, how about just say the Texans need a QB like that?
I don't know, man... If you look at the top 10 QBs in the NFL by passer rating, all of them are well into their 30s, except Luck, which means it's not *that* easy, right?
2 of those Mannings were Eli. I don't think anyone considers Eli elite. So does Schaub qualify? He had stretches where he was excellent. I think he compares very well Flacco.
Ben Roethlisberger had one of the worst SB performances in the last 20 years one of those times the Steelers won the SB, when he actually became a good QB, the Steelers stopped winning, Eli was being talked about as a draft bust the off-season before the Giants won their first SB with Eli at the helm. That makes 6 of those 11, including the last 3 cases where teams with non-elite QB's won the SB.....in fact in the last SB, the team with the elite QB got absolutely embarrassed. It's probably time for the "You can't win without an elite QB" trope to die.
Never Say Never I think no one thought any team would make a great haul after Hershel Walker Trade or the Rickie Williams ttrades Rocket River
No one wanted Butt-Fumble, even over Fitz. Anyone who says otherwise without providing a link, is lying.
