So many QBs that could possibly come out and I’m sure Nick is going to draft one for sure…but continue to build around Mills he’s a franchise guy.
Ok, I know it's the Colts with Matt Ryan, but I'm even more excited to see the home opener. I'll keep my expectations in check, just want to be hopeful and get Lovie a win to start his HC career with Texans--dude is pure leader/Texas gentleman.
I mentioned earlier that I think Mills will end up vastly outperforming his draft position. I could easily see Davis Mills being a guy that has a career similar to someone like Ryan Fitzpatrick. Getting a guy who could be a 10 year starter in the 3rd round is impressive even if he ends up losing the majority of his starts. I just dont think I want to hitch our wagons to him as our long term starter. Now, of course, he might only be scratching the surface of his potential and end up being a HOF-er but my best guess is that is unlikely. For that reason, my plan would be the following: With their top pick draft the best pass rusher available (hopefully Will Anderson or Myles Murphy is there). Grab a QB with the next pick (whoever Hamilton thinks he can develop best out of Richardson, Levis, Van Dyke or McKee). In rounds 2-4 I would try and grab an additional RB to platoon with Pierce, an OT to groom so we can let Tunsil walk in 2 years, a WR and another DB in some order. The rest of the draft would be focused on guys who slipped a tier or on special teams. I think that would set the Texans up moving forward with prospects to groom at the money positions so they can focus on spending to bring in quality IOL/DL/LB/S free agents.
With multiple blue chip QBs available in this draft you cant have a "projection" type year from Mills where you look ahead and hope that in X amount of years he will realize his potential. He MUST seize this position with a fantastic season. If he stays static or worse it should be an easy choice for Caserio. Getting cute and bypassing the single most important position when you have the chance to upgrade is how you stay in football purgatory. I pray Caserio is built for these types of hard decisions. Im hoping for the best since most of the offseason all I hear was that Mills was the "best rookie QB" last season so Im ready to see him prove it.
Bryce Young showed he has both POISE and scrambling ability today! Even though Bama didn't play their best, he showed some thing I didn't know he had.
He'll be the 4th or 5th QB taken. I think there will be a dark house in the top 5. So far, I have; 1) Stroud 2) Young 3) Richardson 4) Levi's 5) Van Dike/Daniels
What about it? He’s still athletic as can be, he’s a project at this point. Not much diff than Richardson
In order for Mills to keep his job with the Texans, I think he will need to be consistently solid throughout the season, and have a few special games. He’s going to need to have a few game winning drives, a few special plays. I think he has about a 50/50 chance to keep his job. I really hope the rest of the offense performs at a high level so we can really see what Mills can do. Not having to spend first round picks on a QB the next two years would certainly speed up the rebuild.
