To be honest, I still haven't looked much at Drake Maye, I tend to look at certain Draft Sites that I gather my info from and they don't have him in the Top 5-6 but good players come from big schools, small schools, UDFA, so whose to day he can not be good.

But you bring up the point that I have been PREACHING for some while and that is, there is NO ASSURANCE that we land a Top 5 pick in next yrs draft!

We're currently in the 6th spot and if we stay there, we're out on CJ, Young, Anderson and probably Levis too, without using extra draft capital to move up. And if we have a good draft and improve next yr, we will be in the 10 - 15 range, which takes further away from Williams next yr!

And remember, there will be other teams looking to obtain a Franchise QB too.

At this stage, I'm starting to look at OPTIONS. What if we stay at #6, Pittsburgh is horrible this yr, so is Detriot, Carolina and if the Texans beat LV we are definitely at #5 or #6.

And my issue with waiting until next yr, that's another yr of pounding on Damon Pierce. And we all know a RB shelf life is 5yrs at best, look at Ezekiel Elliott.

This is why I am looking at players like DJ, Hooker, Jefferson, etc. NOW. I'm of the belief that a team don't have to have a star QB to win but someone who's effective and someone who can make plays and I see that in those players. Matt Stafford was good last yr, not great!

DJ is starting to excite me more and more. I like him right now more than CJ Stroud. He has the size, the arm, he's accurate, goes through his progressions and he can make plays with his legs. I've even seen him make plays with pressure staring him in his face, he's poised in the pocket. He also won a Championship in Highschool, which means he's seen success.

If they can get a defensive stud and another WR in rnd 1 and pickup DJ in rnd 2, I'm good!

I can see the excitement for those two, DJ to me is a lottery ticket. Was a super high recruit with immense physical tools.
Hooker to me is a stop gap, I feel like that’s wasting a pick if it’s in the top two rounds.
If you can get him in the 3rd and have a competition with him and Mills I would be all for it.

I like Stroud alot ya'll know that, but Im just too skeptical of Pep and Lovie to thrust him into that situation. I'd really like to go look for a Joe Brady type OC that would maximize a talent like that. Im all good with Anderson too. He's a game changer.

If nothing transpires I might be willing to give the keys to a guy like Jacoby Brisset for a year or two if Mills doesnt right the ship while we find the player and coach to get the offense going.

I think that’s a fair opinion too, I get the worry people have with Pep.
I thought he would be much better, so far I was definitely wrong on that one.

DJ is exciting physically, but I just don’t see him mentally on the same level as Stroud or Young. He also has a slow throwing motion. A lot of physical tools to work with though. I’d take a chance on him in the 3rd round.

How does going and getting a Jacoby Brisset help though? Might as well roll with Mills again. The worst thing that can happen is the team gets good enough that they’re out of position to draft one of the best qbs. Then you’re relying on getting a qb via trade. We see how that works out, Russell Wilson and Matt Ryan. QBs don’t get traded if they’re still good unless they have significant off field baggage like Deshaun Watson.

Im just spitballing. Rolling with Mills again would probably assure you of another top 5 pick next season, but man Im getting tired of the losing no lie. I think Brisset is a good QB who would at least offer you some positive play. Still probably wouldnt account for many wins either though. Lets convince Fitzmagic to come out of retirement for a couple of years! Mills play is just tough to watch. Im not looking for more wins necessarily, just to be able to enjoy the games a little more.

His throwing motion can be improved upon, however I think moving forward we will learn more about his mental.

He's just an options outside of the Top 3

I'm probably going to die on this hill but: Cameron Ward. He is a lot of projection but this kid has tools to be a very good NFL QB. What truly sells me on him is that he is doing everything he is doing now on, basically, innate ability. In HS he played in a wing T/option offense. For that reason he got no offers from any major programs and ended up at Incarnate Word in San Antonio. Once there he took the starting job as a true freshman and ended up throwing for 2,000 yards and 24 TDs on 60% completion in a COVID shortened 6 game season. So, straight from HS where he was exclusively a runner he threw for, on average, 300+ yards and 4 TDs per game at a higher level of play. He followed that season up with 4,600 yards and 47 TDs on 65% completion (averaging 350+ yards and 3+ TDs per game). Now at WSU, with a completely new cast of teammates and playing the big boys of college football (USC, Wisconsin, and Oregon so far) he has thrown for 1,600 yards and 15 TDs in his first 6 games with a 67% completion percentage.

The downside to Ward is that he is raw. He would not be ready to go until midway through next season at the earliest. And that is presuming that he puts in a lot of time with a personal QB coach like Jordan Palmer and the Texans staff prior to the season. I just see this kid as having a ton of talent and he seems to be successful when he really shouldn't be given his experience. He is basically putting up Levis type numbers from Levis' first season at Kentucky despite having less experience and jumping up in level of comp. If Houston can score somebody like him and pick up additional valuable picks then that would be quite the coup for Caserio and Co.

Yeah I get where your head is at. If we don’t draft a qb in the top 10, we could still get one in round 2 or 3. Not my favorite option, but if they see someone they think can develop into something better than Mills, it could be worth a shot. At the very least you’d have someone else on a cheap contract to be the backup for the guy you get next year.

I like Stroud too, he has the size, the arm, the accuracy but to me something seems to be missing and I can't put my hands on it.

I looked at his tape and DJ's tape and I see the same player but DJ seems to have that extra something.....I COULD BE WRONG

I like Ward too, he's a local kid. My only and I mean ONLY thing against him is he is RAW, which to me is tougher to project.

The thing he’s missing is the ability to legitimately run. He’s slow. Not in the absolute statue way, but compared to most of the best qbs in the nfl now, he’s slow. This makes him less exciting to watch, even though he is more productive and accurate over a much longer period of time than DJ.

I was high on DJ early. He's had his struggles and my main concern is his ability to read and react to a defense and how he processes the game. I'd say Stroud is the most accurate QB in this draft with a skill to hit his guys in perfect positions to continue plays and the ability to understand where the ball needs to go.

My only problem with this were the name above and behind his; JT Barrett and Justin Fields. Is it the players or the system?

However, like I said before if the Texans picked CJ, DJ, YOUNG or LEVIS....I'm good. But if I can get a Defensive stud, a WR and one of those four QBs with the first 3 picks, I'm ECSTATIC.

I'm thinking DJ will be there in the 2nd rnd

Sure. He's gone from 95th in QBR to 44th in the nation. Huge improvement. Im just out on the guy no offense. Starting to feel like its just throwing darts or settling for less in desperation. I think a 2nd round grade for DJ is high for him.

CJ Stroud lead the nation last year in QBR and is currently 1st again this year. Coincidence?

It's going to be 3 by the 2024 draft. IMHO

I have explained how they can acquire a pick high enough to get a pick to draft a QB, you just dont want to believe it can be done because you want to continue what the Texans have done since their inception at the QB position.

Look at the 49ers as a guide, but it probably will take less than that because the Texans will most likely have a higher pick than the 49ers had when they traded for Lance.
