I don't understand the reasoning for the question. Andre, up until last year and this year, has never been hurt to where he missed a considerable amount of games. So using that as an excuse for Schaub not being capable of leading the team to a game winning drive is not fair. It's not his fault that Andre is as good as he is... that's what he's there for. Schaub is more than capable of making the same plays that Yates did today. Yates had a lot of bad throws today... I'm happy he was able to pull it out at the end... go Texans!

Well this isn't Vick and Kolb here... In fact it's reversed. Yates is still a rookie and has much to learn. No reason you can't have him backup an aging Schaub and remain in place to be the starter of the future.

there is no controversy. Yates still has plenty to learn and not to mention it was Schaub that put the Texans in the position that they are in to begin with. Now if we're talking back up qb controversy, then I say Yates is now second. As for starting, there is no way Yates will take over next year.

My God some of you must be so ****ing annoying in person. Is it not possible to simply enjoy the greatest moment in Texans franchise history without ruining it for one goddamned night?

You must spread some reputation around before giving it to Fyreball again.

So QB discussions can't be had because the Texans made the playoffs? It's not like anyone is cussing each other out. Just a healthy discussion.

Give Schaub next year to claim it back... But if we make the Super Bowl, you looking at an Any Given Sunday type scenario...

Like Foster's contract and what to do with Mario Williams, we have the whole offseason to discuss that.

Besides, it's Schaub's job to lose. Yates will have to pull a Tom Brady in the playoffs if he has a shot of being the Texans starter next season. Only other way is that Schaub is not completely healthy (which is possible given his extent of injury).

3 times in 5 seasons Schaub has been hurt for 5+ games. His contract is up at the end of the 2012 season. I don't think the Texans will extend after that, not with Mario and Foster both needing new contracts.

Think about this. Kareem Jackson makes nearly 5x what Foster makes.

The only way Yates takes schaubs job is if we win the superbowl really?
If Tj Yates keeps improving and playing well why not. Matt schaub is not an elite qb and he always gets hurt. T.J has a chance and if he keeps it going he will earn the job.
My question is if T.J is this good now how good will he be by the end of the season. Where already having an argument after two games, don't be shocked if T.J keeps improving and earns the starting job

Foster is probably going to get the franchise tag. If I were the Texans I'd be leery of signing him to a long-term deal, especially after his hamstring issues. I have no doubt that Foster is an amazing RB1, but the success of Tate and Ward (when he has a shot) shows that a lot of Foster's success is the system.

Why would they franchise Foster? That's 20 mil. Foster has had hamstring issues once. No, Foster is getting a long term deal this offseason. Mario seems like a better candidate for the tag. Don't forget salary cap increases in 2014.

Tate and Ward are good running backs but Foster has that one cut and full acceleration that neither Ward nor Tate have. When Foster is on his game, Ward and Tate don't even measure up.

After 2 rookie starts against two defenses missing their best secondary players while performing below average for a starting QB? And comparing him with arguably the 3rd best QB in the AFC this year before injured?

    Really? That's "healthy discussion"?

I think today is the first game where Foster has been healthy this year that Tate outperformed him.

Performing below average for a starting QB? You forget he's a fifth round rookie or something? Yates has performed just fine. Schaub hasn't been much better all year. I think we are seeing TJ's floor here. The potential is better than Schaub will ever be.

I agree with what Bill Simmons said:
"Matt Schaub is basically Tony Romo with a less exciting name, a less famous team and a better PR agent."

Any QB that doesn't make mistakes will be able to win games with our RBs and Def (and this will be especially true when they have a superstar WR in Johnson back).

If I were the Texans and I felt at the end of the season Yates is the one with more potential, I'd move Schaub for good value. If Kolb can get a 2nd rounder + Rodgers-Cromartie, I've got to believe Schaub is worth at least a 1st rounder.

If I don't think Yates has that much potential, as well as he is playing now I'd turn him into a 2nd rounder or more. There is no reason to keep 2 solid QBs on your team, it's easy enough to get a backup. Essentially you just got to choose (like Pats did with both Bledsoe and Cassell).

You get more value back if you trade them right away than if you just have them sit around.

with schaub's history of freak injuries, no way you trade Yates. And Bledsoe was on the downside of his career, so it's not the same. You keep both Yates and Schaub. Schaub is still young and there's no sense in trading him.
