have cash on hand is the hard part. nobody seems to be making good money anymore. i have a master's degree from a prestigious university, yet i can't make more than some folks out of high school. :( :D well, 10 years ago, things were much better. i am not much better than flipping burgers at BK. companies exploit us real bad.

In terms of world issues, it's probably top 5 to me because of all the Chinese nationalism that spews out any time there's a critical eye pointed towards China and this could set the stage for how China behaves toward Taiwan and to what level the US will respond militarily, either through arms supplies or logistical support or whatever.

I think most of these threads were started by Chinese posters though. Everyone jumped in when they tried to flip the script on reality... ie the Dalai Lama is a terrorist, westerners are brainwashed by freedom.

well, maybe gas price will go lower. someone found the 3rd largest oil reserve off the coast of Brazil. 33 billion barrels. i bet that will make the problem a bit easier.

    Thing about me is.....

Im really not a very caring person when it comes to it.

I feel bad for folks in other countries who may be repressed by other more powerful people, but do I care enough to do anything about it?

    No

I care FAR more for how things are going where *I* live, lets take care of our own repressed, the poor, the needy and the elderly.

Lets worry more about our kids having the resources they need to become a responsible member of society.

I recognize the need to work together with our global partners on some issues that affect the world economy, but I really wish we would pay ALOT more attention to what we need here and a bit less about what the deal is in some third world country.

If this makes me a bad person in some eyes, so be it.

Yes, in a couple more years now we'll probably add them to the Axis of Evil and then "liberate" them under Operation Carnaval Storm...

nah, the oil market is far too sophisticated to concern itself with issues like supply and demand.

ya, but times like this, even tiny little discovery may help out. not just the gas but economy as a whole. at least i hope. :D watching old movies with 99 cents gas is depressing.

As the oil executives themselves said, supply and demand has had little to do with the never-ending price hike at your local gas station.

Oil is plentiful and will never run out, we will continue to discover new sources of oil, it will outlast 'peak demand' as people around the world increasingly opt out for 'green' alternatives.

Nobuddy ever said oil will run out......it's "cheap oil" that will or already has run-out.......in fact, even the new Brazilian oil bonanza referenced here is heavy (requiring intensive refinement) and buried deep under the ocean floor......it will be ~15 years before they even get any out of there and it will cost a lot per barrel to do so..
