Good points, and kudos for actually judging him based on what you saw on the basketball court rather than judging him on something ridiculous like him Vs. Adelman and his willingness to nurture the ego's of dormant superstars like T-Will. I personally believe that in the end, the Rockets probably would have been right around the same spot they would have been with Adelman, or would have finished slightly higher than they were. Maybe 2 or 3 wins maximum. McHale did some things better especially on the defensive end, and Adelman probably would have done some things better on the offensive end. In the end, you are probably looking at similar results. -If the Rockets would have made the playoffs, yes they would have had some excitement back in the Toyota Center for a couple of weeks, and maybe some development with players like Courtney Lee and Chase Budinger that might have stepped up in a big game. Plus there is the post playoff trade value which was something that I personally was preaching around the half way mark. However, this Summer taught me that role player trade value in the new CBA climate has dropped dramatically, and possibly.... possibly.... here it comes.... I MIGHT HAVE BEEN WRONG. That being said, I still might not trade back the experience of having my team in the playoffs to root for, even if its not the best thing for the team to rebuild. I do think that despite the times and the market, Morey was still able to get decent value for the role players on the roster that he flipped for Superstar or bust(bust won) despite getting nothing back in return for their best post player last year and fan favorite Luis Scola. So in the end, the Rockets were probably better off not making the playoffs given that it gave them the ability to draft a potential stud in the lottery in a very deep draft. Back to McHale.... I dont see anything in the article that really defines him one way or another. We all know that he's an oldschool hardnosed coach who puts a big emphasis on hard work to improve and maximize your abilities on the court. He has alot to work on himself as a second year coach and hopefully we will see improvement from him as well. One thing for Clutchfans to realize is that he was not given a long term deal. He has this year and next year to prove that he can be a successful coach and develop young talent. If that doesn't happen then he's going to get let go for either someone fresh, new, and smart like Finch or an established name like Stan Van Gundy. I saw McHale as an obvious transition coach for a transition team. He was brought in to prove something to the NBA world by performing a miracle and making this team a playoff contender in 3 years. You dont have to like or love this guy. You just have to realize what he is to this franchise, and where the franchise is. If you realize that then everything makes alot more sense.
McHale had failed in all levels of NBA job since he retired as a player, all except as a television analyst. This is where he is good at and he really should consider that option. He ran TWolves to the ground as a GM. Only good decision he made was drafting future HOF KGarnette. But he failed terribly when couldnt build a team around K Garnette for 10+ years. Also need to mention he got caught making a secret deal that cost TWolves three first round picks as a punishment by Stern. He is still considered inexperienced as a headcoach and should be grateful he has a headcoaching job in NBA. How many ex-NBA players, coaches or college headcoaches would love trading places with him? McHale was a helluva NBA player, no question about that, but he is a big time loser as a GM and as a headcoach so far. If his heart isn't in it, why torment himself or the team he is coaching? Let's find a coach who is not only patient with the rookies, but can take what's giving and make the most out of the situation!
Yeah, you're getting paid for your job. You're not suppose to enjoy the gradual growth of the players you're training, the sense that you're building something, emotionally investing yourself in your job or generally felling happy because of what you do. You've got money for that. Go buy some stuff and shut up. And 28 days isn't even nearly enough to get to know what 11 new players can do and built a coherent system around their strengths.
3/4 of a season for the team to learn how to play together. 5-6 seasons to make the playoffs. 8-9 seasons to become a contender. All dependent on who our draft pick is next year, or the following year. And if Lin can produce in three categories as a second fiddle. Lamb is a Z factor. Been a long time fan. Been down the same road a few times. It's gonna take a long time and McHale will likely be gone by the time this thing jels together. I wont blame mcHale. He's been dealt a raw hand. But I think he understands basketball. And I think he understands Rockets basketball too. But he's before his time. We won't be on the cusp for nearly half a decade.
You are confused about the situation re: Adelman. He was never fired. His contract ran out. This means the Rockets had the prerogative of selecting a candidate of their own choosing. And Adelman as a free agent had the choice of saying "no". So when the Rockets elected not to stand pat and mire in mediocrity, instead to keep the roster "fluid" as long as it is not yet championship caliber, Adelman had the choice of saying "no". And when the Rockets elected to actually appoint assistant coaches by merit, instead of freeloading family members, Adelman had the choice of saying "no". While McHale may or may not be in agreement with management, I doubt management cares. In fact, I think they welcome a different perspective and a diverse set of opinions. They will certainly consider his input. But at the end of the day, McHale has already said "yes". And at the end of the day, as a free agent, Adelman already said "no". That's all that matters.
Point guard Scott Machado, the NCAA assists leader last season who excelled in the Rockets’ final summer league games in July, will sign with the team this week, a person with knowledge of the deal said Tuesday. Machado will sign a three-year, partially guaranteed deal, most likely on Thursday.
oh boy, I was hoping he had some sort of feel on what might work already. He's the headcoach, for fans sake, show some love/confident plz. Have some faith on your kids. IB4 somebody says it's all business.
