I'm a Rocket fan because I've been a Rocket fan for more than 10 years, I don't mind losing, as long as we develop our young talents and get a good pick out of it for the future.
Man's got a point. Let's please stop bashing on each other. After all, we're all cheering for Houston Rockets, aren't we? If we believed that NYKnicks was all drama because the quarrels among the immature players and fans, then we shouldn't be like them. We are doing the same thing right now. MY 2 CENTS.
Nice. You throw out "Lin-centric reasoning," and "LOF" for everyone who calls you out for your disrespectful behavior. Which is what it was. You don't know anything about me and many new members on this board, so don't assume you do. You're incredibly presumptuous for assuming you do, and worse for throwing labels at people. It's simple. If you expect people to speak to you respectfully, then be respectful. Someone calls you a "racist" then you deal with that particular individual, or you don't. It's got nothing to do with anyone else. I don't call how long you've been on the board. People just joined and you are already talking smack to them -- people whom you barely know. Learn some manners.
Cadreaming, it's probably safe to assume you're talking about me throughout your post, but like Shaggy once sang, "It wasn't me." You read through the responses of at least two different posters being critical of Lin, but you attributed them all to me. This is what a few others have been doing, so they think i criticized Lin more than I actually did. Here's the quote you read: I said SOME people were LOF. The only assumption i made was that those who joined recently came because of Lin, which even they admitted, but i only specifically put the LOF label on those who just popped in to talk trash. I already noted the difference between a Lin fan and LOF. And you've go to be incredibly sensitive to be offended by "lin-centric reasoning". It's not an insult. You've got to admit it's a bit ridiculous to imply one should be more offended by being called a LOF than a racist or that other word. You can't compare those things. The latter are solidly defined and and go beyond these boards, into personal territory. That's why it called it Lin-centric reasoning. Completely in his favor. I also didn't call you a LOF, i said that's the kind of logic that would make people think you are one, which you may or may not be, i don't know. I talk(ed) smack to those start(ed) it first. If they want to be treated with respect, then they should be respectful first. Mirus is right though, I'm getting back on topic before they lock the thread.
Troll's MO: Step 1: call a player overrated. Step 2: call those who point out positives "bandwagoners" "newbs" "Asian" "Lin lovers" "biased." Step 3: claim to be objective despite only pointing out negatives. Step 4: multiply use of ad hominem attacks when evidence of positives are discussed. Step 5: innocently claim ignorance as to why "everyone else" is getting upset despite endless use of ad hominem attacks and one sided negative "appraisals" ie attacks. Step 6: congratulate other trolls for being just as "objective" as they are. Step 7: wait one week then repeat steps 1-6.
IIRC, Lin gets some PT in this scrimmage from last year, for those who haven't seen it: <object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/WZWE5U-tIt4?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/WZWE5U-tIt4?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>
Step 1: join Warrior's board, leaves Warrior's board Step 2: join Knick's board, leaves Knicks Board Step 3: join CF Step 4: gets sensitive and claim to be victimized Step 5: call others trolls
Ok. I'm out of here. I'll root for the Rockets firstly, then Lin (rather Lin be on a championship team than a solo flying talent with no ring). I honestly came I'm here to share my excitement at the season coming up but I'm hardly feeling any positive vibes around here. The old timers will be glad another July user is gone and the new comers will be upset that I've given up so easily, but I'll be enjoying the basketball!! Peace.
If you were excited about Dragic, you should be more excited about Lin because Lin is younger. Just like how someone mentioned that you would be more excited if the Rockets had Irving instead of Lin. He's not likely to be a superstar in the league, but it's always a possibility. Dirk and Nash were unlikely candidates when they were 24 as well. Bottom line, you should hope he does well no matter what. The only time you should hate a player on your own team is if they don't try hard. Anyway, we'll see soon enough how well he does this season. My random prediction: 14 ppg, 6 apg, 4 rpg, 3 to, 44 fg%. I'll probably eat my words, but whatever. You shouldn't really feel too strongly about whether you were wrong or right unless you put some money down.
Well said. I would really just like to focus on basketball that is why I joined this site hopefully we can just keep to that and have aggressive but interesting & classy debates. I am very excited to watch all the young guys grow. There will be some ugly games but whatever. I am still going to follow Dragic in Pheonix & Lowry in Toronto and wish them nothing but the best with there respective teams. My prediction was 18 & 8. If his numbers are less than that or more than that I could care less. I just want to see growth & hopefully more wins than I expected.
14/6 and 3 TO is really on the low end on all accounts. It could only mean Lin will not be as aggressive. I say, with 85% certainty, you will eat your words...lol I like 18 ppg, 7.5 apg, 4 rpg, 4.3 to's, 52% efg <---that's agressively attacking the basket.
That's a pretty fair prediction I would say. Honestly, even though I am extremely annoyed at any player first, team second fans, I hope Lin does really well and develops way better than Lowry or Dragic.
"I like Lin but he'd be the first to admit he's nowhere near Rubio's or Kyrie's talent level. The amount of pressure you guys are putting on an undrafted player who's only had 25 games as a starter is insane." If someone were trying to headline-bait him, he'd "be the first to admit" it. I doubt very much he'd be the first to admit that in private. See, when you lead an unassuming suburban high school to a California state title over a nationally ranked team that everyone in the country's heard of, Mater Dei, you probably start to think you're pretty good. And when you lead Harvard to its first Ivy league title in decades (or ever?) that feeling's probably reinforced. Then when you break a bunch of starter records in the NBA in your first few starts after finally getting meaningful minutes, you're probably pretty convinced of your talent level. Now, when you're the first Cali state player of the year to not get a D1 scholarship, do you think you, personally, would doubt yourself, or would you think something funny is going on? Maybe some bias? And when you confirm your abilities by being the only player in the country in college to be in the top 10 in his conference in every major statistical category, would you take being undrafted as a sign of your own lack of talent, or would you think some other factor was affecting things? And, now, finally, after demonstrating an efficiency in your first NBA starts that ranks in the top 20 all time, would you REALLY still be doubting your own talent. Seems hard to believe. It seems more likely that when you hear people still doubting your talent, you'd have a major chip on your shoulder. I wonder if the coaches who passed on giving Lin a D1 scholarship still think they were right when they said (this is a quote from a Stanford scout, I think) "I think he's a solid DIII starter." How many times do talent evaluators have to be shockingly wrong before you stop using incorrect talent evaluations as implicit evidence of Lin's lack of talent?: "The amount of pressure you guys are putting on an undrafted player". Undrafted. As if that's remotely reasonable evidence to introduce at this point. At this point that is being snide. That's where the "hating" label starts. There is lots of objective evidence available. Why would faulty, subjective talent evaluations be your favorite standard of evidence? The evidence that Lin is at the same talent level as Rubio and Irving is profound. To take just one piece of evidence among uncountable, Lin tested out at the draft combine as a better athlete than Irving. His first step is much better than Irving's, and I contend first step is the most important athletic quality for a point guard to have[1]. We saw the results last year when Lin had one of the top FTA/36 in the NBA. He gets to the rim at will. Presumably partly because of this, Lin's Synergy-rated defense is also much higher than Irving's (who was dead last among point guards). But let's return to Lin's basketball IQ again for a moment. Lin had the number 2 PER in the entire NBA last year in the 4th quarter. Is there any amount of pure physical talent that would allow a player to rate that high in PER? Even if Lin were the best athlete in the NBA, he could not go 26 games with the second highest PER in the NBA if he were limited by a low basketball IQ. Lebron leads the league in PER because he is a phenomenal athlete and also makes high percentage plays. Both are required to rate that highly. So, when someone, like apparently Gothic Ginobli, makes a claim that Lin could somehow not have a high basketball IQ, it looks awfully like hate[2]. Not hate of Lin of course, but hate of the "the hype". Don't let hype hate bias your evaluations, because a player getting a lot of extra attention for non-basketball reasons is utterly irrelevant to the facts on the court. Hate also looks like snide, sarcastic comments: "Lin is faster than Usain Bolt." Funny, but I don't think anyone's exaggerating Lin's physical abilities or accomplishments. Point it out, please. Instead, Lin's physical attributes are well-documented online from his marks at the draft combine. His first step was faster than Wall, Irving, and Rose. Look it up and cut out the snide comments. Or don't, I don't care, but folks shouldn't pretend that LOFs are the only ones who behave annoyingly. [1] Much more important than 3/4 court top speed or two footed running vertical, for example, though Lin was elite at those as well. [2] Even if it's not hate per se, it's definitely signalling: http://wiki.lesswrong.com/wiki/Signaling, signalling that this analyst is above all the plebes who mistakenly think Lin is better than he is because he's Asian or undrafted or a feel-good story or whatever.
I wouldn't want him scoring that many points, that would mean Lamb and Donuts are not getting enough touches. My optimal scenario would be Lamb leading the team in points, Lin in assists while keeping TO's way down and Omer in rebounds and blocks.
"My random prediction: 14 ppg, 6 apg, 4 rpg, 3 to, 44 fg%. I'll probably eat my words, but whatever. You shouldn't really feel too strongly about whether you were wrong or right unless you put some money down." No money to put down, but I for one will be happy to dredge up some of these absurdly low predictions at the end of the year. 14 ppg? Lin averaged more than that when he was deferring to two ultra high usage All-Stars. If Lin averages 14 ppg per game this year he'll average 12 apg.
Depends on what the team needs at the time. I can foresee 14 ppg being perfectly suitable or adequate depending on what other kinds of offensive options open up for the team (Parsons, DMO, Lamb, Martin, Asik?). He doesn't necessarily need to be a high-scoring (20 ppg) PG to be effective. We'll see when the season starts and the pieces start coming together. It could be that Lin needs to be the #1 offensive option in which case I do hope he gets 18-20 ppg. Point of interest: Nash is a career 14.5 ppg, 8.6 asg future HOF-er.
