Trump isn't shy about expressing his admiration for dictators and their rights to do whatever. I have little doubt that if he had dictator/king-level immunity, he would use it like a dictator and go after political opponents, past and future. On Trump being prosecuted like Navalny, he has enjoyed his full right to due process – not figuratively, which is the case for those who can't afford lawyering, but literally. He enjoys this while being free to roam wherever he likes within the US, with 24/7 Secret Service protection, and lives in a mansion with access to great food and activities. There is no comparing that to Navalny, who is imprisoned in a hell hole without due process. Gingrich has been a harsh critic of Putin (not sure if he still is), but some of the people trying to make this comparison are in the pro-Putin camp of the Republican party.
People scream and throw out phrases like facism or police state, but if you're still around the next day, you're probably better off than some of our more silent neighbors who just vanish, are brutally tortured, and/or have their organs harvested to the highest global bidder, I guess having friends like Saudi Arabia or Vietnam opens questions about what we really stand for, but the fact that we still do take stands and that other countries follow should be enough to keep trying and work towards a better future for everyone.
Arrested for Leaving Flowers, Navalny Mourners Fear Worse to Come At least 366 people were detained over the weekend, leading to concern that the arrests could signal greater government repression ahead of Russia’s elections in March. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/18/world/europe/russia-arrests-navalny-memorials.html Even after his death, Russian authorities aim to repress support for Navalny “Alexei Navalny wanted one very simple thing: for his beloved Russia to be just a NORMAL country,” Navalny’s longtime chief of staff and political adviser, Leonid Volkov, posted on X. “And for this Vladimir Putin killed him. Poisoned, imprisoned, tortured and killed him. Killed is not an exaggeration, not a figure of speech.” “You can’t write about Alexei — he ‘died,’” Volkov continued. “This is not death, this is murder. Everything there is covered with cameras in the colony. Every step he took was filmed from all angles all these years. Each employee has a video recorder. For two days — there is not a single video: not leaked, not published. There is no room for uncertainty here.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2024/02/18/alexei-navalny-memorials-moscow-putin/
According to Trump though Biden has Presidential immunity and can do whatever the **** he wants. Biden should just have him arrested and bring back the guillotine. Presidential immunity, b****es!
Why would he actually do it though? If you really think about it, doing that would get in his way of making more money by dealing, stealing, and under the table Kushy bribes than not.
He’s all about his image, perhaps even more so than selling Trump shoes. Babbling against E. Jean Carroll cost him more than those Trump shoes could bring in.
I genuinely don't think that Trump would go out of the way to ruin H. Biden, Hillary, or J. Carol. He might investigate Hunter on some other charge, but there isn't much incentive because Joe is old af and Hillary serves better as a punching bag on social media. Trump is also old AF, so his legacy is more on the line to drag himself down with going after political opponents Dictator style. That's not to say Dems and media won't dare him and accuse him of doing it via "slippery slope" charges.
I don't think there is any new low Trump wouldn't stoop to. The minute I think I've seen and heard it all he does something even worse. He is full of hate and revenge, especially now that he's facing penalties, courts, and juries for committing so many crimes and felonies.
You might be right. I do think differently. I don’t think he would go after anyone who is no longer critical of him. However, I do believe he would target everyone who still criticizes him. According to an article in the NYT (around 2018), Trump wanted the DOJ to prosecute Clinton, but the adult in the room persuaded him not to move forward. There won’t be any adult in the room next time.
trump says Navalny, who was jailed and poisoned while trump was president, should have stayed out of russia...
Trump's lucky he's in the US. If he said the nasty stuff about Putin and Russia that he does about Biden and our government he would have "mysteriously" died years ago.
trump compares his legal problems with Aleksey Navalny. Joe Biden meets with Navalny's widow and daughter.
“He’s not a hero,” said Trump. “He was a hero because he was murdered. I like people who weren’t murdered.” -- Donald Trump, probably
