hell no; Phil may be many things, stupid he ain't.

there is NO gurantee that any team that LBJ signs with will win the ring.

the core of the Lakers team is intact; phil had gone battles with them, go to finals 3 consecutive years, winning 2. The prospect of another 3-peat is just too enticing.

the only reason that Phil may not come back to the LAkers is that the owner want him to take a pay cut. even w the pay cut, LAkers can offer more than any other team, except maybe the former NJNets team.

    1993-1994 Chicago Bulls

55-27 (Lost in 7 games to the knicks in the semis)

    Leading Scorers
    Scottie Pippen
    Horace Grant
    and the Immortal B.J. Armstrong

How many rings did Red Auerbach win without Russell
    Russell won 2 without Auerbach

How Many rings did Jordan win without Phil
    Phil won 5 without Jordan

    04-05 Lakers without Phil 34-48
    05-06 Lakers with Phil 45-37

Shaq and Kobe were together 3 years before Phil got there,

    his first year, Championship

Jordan had 5 years before phil got there

He won in his second year

He is the greatest winner in pro basketball history, if you need a championship Phil Jackson will deliver,

    NOBODY WINS WITHOUT TALENT
but just having talent doesn't assure you of a title, Phil wins it all

Of course there's no linear way to measure who is the best, however you can probably put coaches into tiers. I'd say PJ, Brown, Riley and Pops are at the very top, all of them are good at making in-game substitutions, motivating players, and developing rookies.

PJ being overrated is bull****. You don't win 11 rings just by being an opportunist. PJ has been coaching continuously except that 1 year he retired, its not like he only coaches when he has a dominant post player and an elite wing.

You could also make the case the Jordan was lucky he had Pippen and Rodman, Kobe was lucky he had Shaq and Gasol etc.

Ray Allen wasn't a "gift", they traded a high lottery pick (top 5 I think) for an overpaid 30+ year old SG making max money. The KG deal wasn't a fleecing as well, Al Jefferson and Telfair as the article said looked really good at the time. Fact of the matter is the Celts were loaded with assets from being a lottery team for so long, they just cashed in those assets for KG and Allen. Compare that to LA, which traded no-names for Pau Gasol. Sure his bro turned out fine, but at the time nobody has seen him play or knew how he would turn out, while Pau Gasol was an established star already, and everybody knew he was a really good player you can build around on. Nowadays. that would be like the Raptors trading Chris Bosh to Spurs for Splitter and expirings. Would that be a fair move to you?

No, the ring counting method is BS. Yes, you don't win a lot by just being lucky. That's why I said he's a great coach. But the ring-counters always use the 10 or 11 rings to argue THAT is the reason why he is THE BEST. By that logic, he must be more than 2.5 times better than Popovich, more than 5 times better than Rudy T, 11 times better than Brown, and infinitely better than Adelman and JVG.

You can't deny that he has the benefit of coaching some of the best talents in basketball history, and any good coach could have won the same number of rings had they had the same opportunities. The only time he had a mediocre team was the two years before they got Gasol. Frankly, even though the Lakers didn't go anywhere, I gained a lot of respect for him. He coached Kobe and Odom and a bunch of mediocre players to a respectable season.

pure revisionist history for the sake of bashing the Lakers.

at the time both Telfair and Jefferson were nobody, yes, worst than Kwame Brown.

selective memory on your part. the Grizz owner want to reduce salary, the highest paid on the team (Gasol) had to go. Chicago put up the best package but wanted more than just Gasol.

The Laker had a huge expiring contract in Kwame, which Grizz coveted.

out of this trade, Grizz got huge salary relief (from Kwame), a good young center is Marc Gasol, and 2 first round picks, one turned out to be OJ Mayo.

not exactly fleecing, not when you consider TWolves only got Jefferson and Telfair
