I don't like Phil. Never have. But once you hit 10 or 11, you have to start thinking it's not all luck and on-the-court talent.

    Give the man his props.

Coaches can't win without great talent, but great talent can lose without great coaching. Phil is an opportunist but he knows how to get the most out of his talent, pace the game, and take advantage of subtle opportunities to manipulate the officials.

But hasn't he also deserved the opportunity to cherry pick his spots? I mean come on people. Give the man some credit.

no one knows for sure what the cavs would've done this year if jackson was the coach.

all we know is the cavs had a better record and probably the better player. but mike brown didn't win. so that supports my point that a coach can't just ride talent to a championship. it's an invalid excuse to say jackson only one because he had the best teams or best players, since the best teams and the best players don't win every year.

Let's keep in mind that the Lakers were 34-48 WITH Kobe the year before Phil Jackson came back. So this notion that he only goes to great teams is not true. He went to a team that was a lottery team and that had a star player who everyone at the time was calling uncoachable and a ball hog. He turned that team into a back-to-back title winner and turned that player into a much more mature player.

When you win that many championships, you don't need to go to the clippers.

This is like saying put Jack Welsh at our suburban car-wash (at age 60), and lets see how many billions he makes ...

The Bulls couldn't win a championship with Doug Collins before Phil Jackson, and the Lakers couldn't win with Del Harris/Rambis before Jackson either. Phil even took a mediocre Laker team when they lost Shaq and built them into a championship team.

The guy knows how to coach talent and most importantly the stars respect him and listen to him. He's one of the greatest coaches of all-time period.

Not sure what your point is. Are you saying Phil Jackson should have taken the Kwame team to a title? My point was that Phil doesn't just go to the best teams. He took over a team that was a lottery team and was a key part of building it to a title team. There is a reason they paid him $12 million to come back and why Kobe had to do a 180 and beg him to come back. Because in that one season without him they realized how valuable he is.

This is akin to proposing "Put Rudy T on the Clippers and lets see how many rings he gets". Phil Jackson has benefited GREATLY by having top flight talent on his teams but if anyone thinks, even for a second, that those top flight talent would have played better or gave more respect to any other coach in the NBA, you're seriously delusional.

Think Jordan would have respected anyone as much as he respected Jackson? Kobe giving Brian Shaw or Byron Scott the same treatment he's giving Jackson? Jackson does what few coaches do--gets the role players as well as the elite talent to buy into what he's selling. And when you're a role player and you see your Alpha Dog respecting the coach, you might want to follow suit.

MJ didnt win anything until he got Rodman(or Grant), and Pippen.
