bigotry exists with words like "bull dyke", whether you intend to offend or not, it is very offensive.
What century are you living in moestavern19 or city? I live in Toronto and we have "Dyke March" and Pride Week parade and it's pretty accepting here.

But in a way you are right about using that word. I would never use that type of word in front of a gay person and I wouldn't even use the word lesbian or whatever labeled they might find offensive when speaking to a stranger. But I have use these words before but it's in the company of the lesbians that I know. I'm using it loosely here so people would know what I'm talking about. But I don't think it's derogatory like the "N" word.
Words can do damage, there are plenty of other words to use that sound funny and dirty like BANGKOK, CUCKOLD, and COUNTRY. use them wisely.
