For tipping in Ireland the rule seemed to be you don't tip at the bar but if you have a waiter bringing you food or drink to your table you do. I noticed in Northern Ireland even if you do tip at the bar they will give it back. In Asia its not customary to tip but they won't turn it down if you do.
It was in 1986 when Reagan ordered an air strike against Muammar Gaddafi in Libya. ...and the French can eat my poop. Beautiful country. Too bad it's full of a$$holes.
I have found almost the same exact thing. It usually comes down to misunderstanding. Americans don't understand the customs, and without knowing commit some kind of offense. The French are insulted and blow off the Americans, who then take it as the French being rude, and neither side understands why. I will say that in France tipping is added in to most things, and French traveling outside of France might come off as cheap because they don't understand about tipping. Also not that many French travel outside of France for holidays.
well i've worked at disneyland resort paris and I would say that the worst tourists to deal with are the english (if they aren't satisfied they kill u), russians (worse of the worst). At the begining I actually had a hard time with the french but as the time goes u learn how to deal with them and they actually aren't that bad! Just play their game and u will enjoy them.
I'm surprised by the accusation that they don't try to speak foreign languages. When I'm in France and they hear my accent, they usually try to speak to me in English even though my French is better than their English. But, maybe it doesn't apply so much with other languages. As for the reputation for rudeness, I think it is simply culture-clash. France is the closest really-foreign place that Americans have contact with. Other countries like Canada and England are not wholly foreign, so we don't have a real disconnect in how we interact. And, more foreign places, like Turkey or Slovenia or something, we don't have enough contact with to witness the culture clash. With France, it really is foreign, but it is also intertwined with our lives enough that we really see it is foreign. I have less trouble with it than other Americans because I'm more familiar with France. I understand why they don't think certain things they do are rude, and avoid doing the rude things Americans do.
