Manufacturers have an update alliance now with Android. Most of those quality apps are readily available on the market.

I once had an iPhone and had it jailbroken, and I will never go back.

Too many restrictions, and no external storage is just crappy, and I swear iPhones become soooo slow when they're jailbroken.
The only thing I like about iOS is it has decent MS Exchange support.

However if you're just a normal user with no plans on modifying the phone, and if you may not be so tech savvy then I'd just get an iPhone. They just work

Two years ago this statement was valid, now not at all. Apple has definite competition on its hands and pretty much the only thing they advertise that distinguishes the iPhone from the crowd is "apps". Are you telling me developers don't have the time/money/care to multiplatform develop? Thats a load of garbage, and this coming from a person who has now owned every single iPhone. The iPhone 3g is when they really stopped innovating and started spec pushing. Sure, the iPhone 5 will be faster, but without new features it's still somewhat obsolete. iOS devices still can't run flash, ie9 mobile is about 10x faster than safari, and android is 100% open. Apple used to "Think Different", now they are basically cruising on what little steam they have left. Unless the iPhone 5 has some amazing ass features, it will be left in the dust...

The Atrix is a great phone. Now that the bootloader will be unlocked with the upcoming official Gingerbread release for the Atrix.

Yeah, I might pull the trigger if there's no SGS2 news soon.

The new Motoblur with Gingerbread is actually pretty good.

Wow...I'm surprised this thread has stayed civil for this long.

I'm an AT&T iPhone customer, who recently purchased a Verizon LTE MiFi Hotspot. I can attest to the 4G speeds on their network...they are insane.

There are so many great smartphones out there right now, so you should definitely take some time to browse. If you decide to stick with AT&T, I would agree with ItsMyFault, get the Atrix....especially if the update does away with Motoblur.

As far as smartphone OS's, I would decide between Android and iOS then Windows Phone 7. The Mango update may bring quite a bit more functionality, but why wait for what's already out there.

Do you mean the Android OS or one of the Verizon "Droid" iterations?

That's a good tidbit there (atleast for someone like me).

I still have my Samsung Vibrant (still not unlocked), and I still love it, but the cheap-ish hardware in the back is a bit of a downer, especially after seeing that pretty much every smartphone out now has a fancier hardware.

i think people are really underestimating win phone 7. once nokia comes out with quailty hardware..it will be my next phone.

sure iphone has a trillion apps..but i dont use a single one on a regular basis. what i do daily is check my email, text and visit some sites.

gaming gets old quick and u end up paying for these dollar apps which add up quick.

my reasons for keeping the iphone:

    1. i don't like android. i have tried it and i hate the widgets and multiple home screens. it doesnt feel snappy. and battery life has never been its highlight.

    2. quality hardware with apple products. apple has a lot more to lose if they put out subpar products unlike htc or samsung.

    3. ipod connectivity with my car.

    what i hate:
    1. the hell hole that is known as the AT&T network. i have to use skype to make calls at my house cause the service is bad.

Yes but there are tech rumors and tidbits apple releases here and there. Are you telling me they have a game changer and in light of the hype the two other platforms are getting right now they are just sitting on it? Just like the gamechanger they had when Android was released? Or the one when WP7 was? Oh wait, they haven't had one in a while... Barring facetime (which is really crappy) they've been coasting. They haven't even fixed their faulty notification system yet...

Rumors are fine, but we really don't have anything solid yet. Hardly enough to decide that something is 'underwealming'.

Notifications are overhauled in the fall update, along with a large number of improvements.

They are still the best selling single handset, I believe, and are selling each iteration like mad. I think that's fairly significant. I like WP7, but it's done nothing but sputter out at this point. Hopefully Mango gives it new life, but as of right now it's lagging far, far behind everyone and needs a boost badly. They need a 'gamechanger', rather than force anyone else to create one. Neither Android nor iOS have any reason to be concerned by WP7 at this point.

Android is Android. Successful in its own right, but Android and iOS seem more than capable of coexisting and making money. (Well except for the Android Market developers that is.....)

I was an avid Iphone user up until my company would no longer pay for the increased data plan. I ended up switching to the Samsung Focus with WP7. At first I missed some of the apps I was used to, but haven't regretted my switch at all. With the NoDo update and adding copy and paste and Mango on the horizon, WP7 is a great OS. The Zune interface and Zune Pass make Itunes look like an Apple IIe interface. Its nice having a phone that not everyone has, that works smoothly and does everything I need it to do. I still think Iphones are great phones, but iOS looks boring and seems a little dated to me and Android just seems like a cheap knock off of iOS.

Get an Android phone. Sold my 32GB iPhone 4 and moved to the Inspire and no regrets. I knew what I was going to though previously having the G1, Nexus 1, and G2. If you want to root and install custom roms Inspire all day. Galaxy S 2 is a great phone but who knows how long it will take to come to American shores, its already been two months.

For people saying Android is a cheap knockoff of iOS wait til you play with iOS5. That's a knockoff of Android.

Also, if you get an Android, ROOT IT.

I have a Samsung Droid Charge, overclocked at 1.2 ghz, custom kernel with setCPU profiles for beast battery life, ADW launcher, custom DNS servers, free wifi tethering, etc.

My THunderbolt is running Cyanogen Mod :)

Btw, if you're really excited about the galaxy s 2, just sell your current phone and buy the unlocked version on Amazon, don't wait for AT&T to release the phone along with their bloatware
