Drayton is just making his own economic decisions, just like Beltran did, just like any of us would. The offer was more than fair. Why do you fault Drayton for looking out for his finances, but you defend Beltran for it?

How can anyone blame Purpura? Everything was put on hold in order to sign Beltran. Until Drayton finished his Beltran project, there wasn't anything Purpura could do. He couldn't get any other free agents signed until he knew exactly how much money he was playing with.

The Chronicle also said Purpura is starting off on the wrong foot. I have no idea why he is getting blamed for anything that has happened. Letting go of Kent and the Beltran negotiations were all Drayton. So now Tim can finally get down to work.

well if it comes down to that beltran wouldn't sign over a no trade clause then i think it's pretty easy to place blame on purpura.

How is that, when the "no trade" decision wasn't made by Purpura, but by McLain?

    What's Gerry doing now?

Anyway, Pupura was set up for failure as i don't see Roger coming back as well...

However, with Drayton handling the negotiations, its his fault as well...

if it was made by mclain then the whole situation becomes even more ridiculous because isn't mclain looking to sell the stros? having beltran would increase his teams value, right?....i dunno i dont get it

no trade clauses are waived all of the friggin time....God help us if this is why this deal fell apart.

the clauses help mediocre players asure themselves that they wont have to uproot their families at a moment's notice....players of beltran's calibur waive them all of the time
