I went to go visit him again today and he is doing much better :). He actually ate today, unfortunately he threw up, but hopefully tomorrow will be a better day for my little fella. The people at the vet also told me that he was very energetic and playful in the morning so that definitely makes me happy.

BTW, here is a couple of pictures of him.

I'm really glad that the dog is doing better. I hope it continues to improve.

You definitely deserve rep for doing the treatment. He's lucky to have an owner like you.

I got a puppy 4 years ago, full blooded doberman. As soon as we got him we took him to Banfield Pet Hospital inside of petsmart. They have a Puppy Wellness Plan, back then it was $99 down and $15 a month. This included all the puppy shots, and regular checkups. Anytime we had a question or anything we just called and either scheduled an appt, or got information over the phone for the most part it was all included in the monthly fee.

Monthly heartworm and flee meds are not included, but you do get a cheaper rate for being part of a plan on certain meds.

We currently pay $36 a month, we had to have some extensive testing done at one point that wasnt covered by the $15 plan, so we upgraded. We were told after the tests were done we could call back and move the plan back to the $15 a month, I just havent done it.

Each visit you get a comprehensive health report on your pet with areas that you could improve, each receipt also shows the total money you have saved. During the first 6mo-year with all the shots and checkups I believe we had saved over $2000. Our last appt showed our lifetime savings over $4k.

I would recommend this service to any pet owner (they offer the same for cats), piece of mind is a wonderful thing especially with your pets. I go to the locations in Humble and at 1960\45. The staff is very nice, they all know my dog by name and after the first couple of drop offs he didnt give them any problems, they treat him well. If you have scheduled an appointment, they will call you 2-3 days prior to the appt to verify, which is nice, especially since you can schedule checkups 6mo in advance.

A few tips if anyone does decide to go with them, they usually seem to be pretty busy, I have spent 30 mins in line just to get heartworm meds from time to time so I currently buy all meds in 6 month supplies, that way I only have to visit 2x a year, and they are cheaper, I think i pay $36 for a 6 month supply. I also usually try to schedule med pickups at the same time as a checkup to reduce trips up there.
They offer drop off services multiple days a week, you drop them off by 8am and pick them up before close. They atleast offer this one week day and on saturdays.
Anytime you have an appointment you can also have them treated in the pet salon area. We add like $10 to the bill and have his nails clipped each time we go.
Each time before I leave, I ask for an intake form to fill out and bring back with me the next time, this is the first thing they have you do and if yours is already filled out alot of times, they will just take it and your pet and you can go.

I plan on getting a female doberman soon and will definitely have the plan on her as well.

My puppy is home, although he is still very weak. However, he actually did try to eat today when I fed him, although not very much. The doctor told me he has an 80/20 chance of making it, so hopefully he keeps on fighting. I know he isn't out of the woods just yet but I'm keeping my head high.

Jay, any advice you can give me?

It's been a week now since he started feeling like this and he is doing so much better. He is now crying for food, he is playing around again, and yesterday he made me cry because he was trying to bite me and it made me really happy that he was slowly getting back to his old self :).

There's no way you saved that kind of money. I go to an expensive vet (I don't trust Banfield due to thousands of terrible reviews) and I haven't even spent close to $2,000 on my dog in the two years of owning him. All this includes puppy shots, neutering, heartworm meds (Sentinel), and rabies vaccinations. I only take my dog to the vet once a year now and I think the visit is roughly $60. I don't want to say Banfield is ripping you off just because it's more like an insurance policy. But unless you own a crazy dog that always gets himself into trouble or always falls sick, it's a pretty unnecessary expense.
