Here it is juicystream: http://blogs.chron.com/unofficialscorer/2009/07/astros_am_report_allstar_regre.html First comment/response in the comments section. He must have also played after the tractor incident.
Yep, saw him play Wednesday here in Corpus. He went 1 for 2 and was subbed out for defensive purposes in the 6th. He doesn't look like anything special so far, but he's probably got plenty of rust to shake off.
Article from mlb.com on the trade. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090818&content_id=6482172&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
most of what they have is untradeable...for any number of reasons, not the least of which are no-trade clauses.
A reliever in low-A ball and a player to be named...? Not that losing Pudge is going to have a significant impact on our team, as we're basically out of the wild-card hunt anyways, but I wish we could've have gotten a higher-tier prospect in return. But, on the bright side, it's a start at re-tooling what has widely been considered one of the league's weakest farm systems. I hope we ship Tejada/Valverde to a contender in need of a bat/strong arm in the pen for some young talent.
For a 40-year-old catcher with a .650 OPS that is going to be a backup for them? I would have been satisified with just the already-named prospect.
I believe they already put, then took, Miggy off the waivers, and I dont think you can put a player back on the waivers to be traded again...
Is it too late to bring back Clemens for our "typical" closing stretch? We can always expect to make up large deficits late in the season. It's in our DNA.
About three or four posters immediately had the same reaction, and you highlight mine only. Biased much?
Getting anything for Pudge was a win, as he wasn't giving much to the club. We got a guy who was considered to have raw talent out of HS, and hurt his arm during his first season(Which he was very good, even though he was considered raw). He had Tommy John Surgery and came back for a full season in 2008, and pitched well. He's having a great 2009. I'll take that for Pudge.
The player to be named is Jose Vallejo a scrub infielder...can't be announced until he clears waivers.
Might not be a total waste. 22 yr old 2B in AAA already, looks to have plenty of speed (47 steals in 2007). We definitely need middle IF prospects.
If this dude is not even a small prospect, maybe Drayton trying to save 500 k on salary? (ivan makes 1.5 this year)...
He's not any better than Kata/Maysonet/Manzella. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/V/Jose-Vallejo.shtml Apparently he is fast, but doesn't get on base well. Unless he is a tremendous defensive player, he probably won't really play in the majors, and I doubt he is that great defensively if he is playing 2B instead of SS.
