One big problem with citing the Kennedy case was that was a private expression of religion. This would be explicitly a state sponsored expression.

Public schools should be teaching liberal arts and civics. Religion should be left to the private schools and Sunday schools.

If there is a world history classes discussion of cultural aspects like religion should be included. It becomes a problem when religious principles are taught rather than the history of religion.

One of two things are true: (1) @AroundTheWorld doesnt actually know the 10 commandments, or (2) he knows the 10 commandments, but doesn’t know the constitution.

@AroundTheWorld - nobody gives a crap whether your comments are popular. The problem is that they are stupid and utterly without principle.

The issue is when you teach religion as a science it loses its magic and becomes what it is: stories humans tell and traditions they pass on. When your tribe is emerging from the Bronze Age collapse (or the fall of the Roman Empire), your predecessors were Gods compared to your hard existence.

And the notion that children need a poster in a classroom that says "thou shalt not kill" is so hilarious and provides a insight of how things so obvious aren't so obvious to right wingers.

I don't know. Maybe America's right wing needs posters on the wall reminding them killing is bad because they never discovered empathy.

My favorite one has always been "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his ox, nor his ass."

From a labor perspective, let’s redefine the sabbath to mean Friday through Sunday and include when the sun has set.

If the Sabbath is what provides Americans decent labor rights, I'm all for it :D

Spoiler: it won’t. Religion falls by the wayside when it comes to economic growth.

And often religion is weaponized for economic growth. See Amway.

It's small blips like this that makes me wonder if you are playing a character the entire time here. That's a lot of time investment in being not sincere though.

Conservatives don't care about such small trivial things. And they know Uncle Thomas will back them up when it goes to the supreme corrupt court. ;)

I do think religion is important, it does set a good moral value..........in my opinion, but that might not be your opinion so when kids are in school it should be to learn and not to be lectured that my religion is superior to yours. I will let my pastor teach me and mine at Church and through fellowship, but my values may not be the same as yours and I have no right to push my set of values on you nor should you try and push your religious beliefs on me. These types of bills are normally pushed by a bunch of OLD white dudes that say one thing and then when no one is looking or there among there own they typically do a 180 and act a fool. You do you my brothers and sisters and I`ll do me and if we agree, then cool, if not, we can still coexist. The last thing I want is the goverment telling me (or you) what I can and cant do

I don’t think you are stupid. In fact, I’m guessing you are reasonably well educated. I said your comments were stupid and utterly without principle.

I think he is educated, but todays environment makes it ok to say stupid things that lack principle because, well, it has been normalized. My guess is that pre trump, he wouldn’t have said these things out loud.

And yet you think state endorsement of the 10 commandments would benefit our multicultural, diverse post-industrial society?
If we were agrarian, pre-industrial living a subsistence life they’d have a bit more oomph.
