What does the bill of rights have to do with anything. I'm talking about whether something makes some people uncomfortable or not. If I had advocated that the government should limit the right to pray in public, maybe your post would have a point. As it stands, it doesn't.
I went out to eat with my sister and brother in law last weekend. Before the meal, my sister wanted to say a quick, quiet prayer to bless the meal. It was not a spectacle and nobody seemed to notice. If this behavior bothers you, then the problem is yours, not mine. Perhaps you should barricade yourself in your home so that you are not forced to be around people that are not exactly like you.
No worries dude, I assure you he has no problem with that ritual. But I lol'd at the second paragraph.
Having to see? Who is forcing you to see people pray in public? Unless you don't really HAVE to see people pray people in public... In which case, turn the other way genius?
Maybe, but if I happen by someone perusing a copy of "Ontological Relativity" things might get rough.
This behavior does not bother me. I precisely said as much in a previous post. But it is noted that you as an otherwise reasonable poster seem to be slightly defensive/aggressive when it comes to the topic of religion. Interesting.
I'm going to start following AroundTheWorld everywhere and praying wherever he stops. In every meeting, he'll see me outside through the window, praying. Whenever he's driving, he'll see me on top of a cab praying. When he's on an airplane, he'll see me in the pathway praying. I'm also going to create cleverly disguised videos which, once he clicks, will display CGI of thousands of Mathloom clones praying. I'll also plant minispeakers in random places at his office and home which call to prayer. Fun times lol
As soon as I get in public I will offer a prayer thanking the lord for allowing you to make this post.
If I remember correctly you live in Germany that doesn't have a Bill of Rights so this isn't an issue. In fact one of the biggest issues in Europe right now is how much to limit the public displays of religion. Speaking personally I agree with the letter and spirit of the Bill of Rights and think we should tolerate public prayer and such actions are the consequence of a diverse society.
I don't mind as long as they are not blocking traffic areas..... And, if it bugs you that much, eat a burrito go stand next to them and cut a greasy steamer !! DD
Seems like you are referring a lot to restaurant behavior perhaps. Mealtime is a time when many Christians want to take time to Give Thanks and often they do so vocally-- especially if their children are present. They want to teach and set an example. I don't do that. I will join in if someone prefers a "public" prayer but I don't feel it is necessary. We pray together as a family at bed time. We try to make it fun and meaningful. We'll normally do serial prayers, i.e. A. 5 words and finish the thought or B. complete sentence and around the "room" three times. We try to focus on giving thanks for our blessings and concern for those who are hurting. I try to teach my kids to pray when things are going great or bad. It's not something you save up for the right time. Pray when the compulsion lands upon you instead-- which is mostly private. Prayers are not orders. The "ultimate" prayer IMHO is to find God's will for your life and to exhibit grace and peace under any circumstance. Tall order.
