It's a good thing you dropped your "let's keep D&D civil" tag. It's difficult to imagine you signing it to that post.
Rep. John Shadegg (R - AZ) just held up a newborn baby on the House floor, and spoke about what this newborn, "Maddy," wanted to see in healthcare reform. For a baby incapable of her own speech, she sure had a lot of opinions. (All the actual baby did was try to grab hold of the microphone and pull off the sound-dampening.) For this, he got a standing ovation from his side of the aisle. Now there's a bunch of shouting about who honors veterans the most. I hate floor debates.
via TPM -- Dems Have 218, Long Night Ahead A Democratic source tells us the House, which has been debating the health care bill all day, will be able to pass the plan tonight. The source said they have the needed 218 votes. Coming up is debate about the amendment dealing with abortion, and then the Republicans will get an hour to present their alternative plan. Votes will start around 10 p.m. The final vote might happen close to midnight. http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/2009/11/getting_close_to_a_vote.php
Or the Medicare prescription benefits that costs 1.2 trillion over the next decade. An amount that could've helped pay for reforming healthcare if Bush and Congress at that time had wanted to pick it up.
I think the public option is a result of people being too dumb to know they need to buy healthcare. Shelter, food healthcare are some basic needs. When someone says 700 per month for their family is too much and decides not to buy it they are likely paying 800+ per month for cars, and insurance, or a house note. Now they want to be forced to buy it. Welp, I guess sometimes if you are that dumb you don't deserve freedom.
Stupak abortion amendment passed. Shadegg, earlier today, ignoring W.C. I am dumber for having watched it live.
huh, taking a quick glance... looks like one republican is voting not to recommit the bill. either it's snowe...or someone accidentally pressed the wrong button. not holding out too much hope for "Republican crossovers" though.
Snowe's in the Senate. The House wasn't expected to have any GOPers vote for it. But one GOPer voted against the GOP plan too - so I bet it's that same guy.
