Tourists?? They've done everything they can to get the cali yankee foreigners to move to Austin. They're locals now. This is why Austin can't have nice things anymore.

That being said, if you ignore that hipster culture, Austin is a nice place to live... well if you exclude the overintruding municipal policies.

No doubt. Still a great place to visit too, but to me it's now in the same category as NYC, SF, LA, Chicago, etc.... Great place to go for 3-4 days.

But I'm just an old-ish guy that yells at clouds, so don't put any stock into what I say.

No. Talking on the phone is much more distracting than eating in your car. When you talk on the phone, your mind is being used to follow the conversation you are having. Very distracting when driving a car. Eating, in my opinion doesn't really pull your attention away from the road in the way that talking on a phone does. I know some people are good at multitasking, but I see people every single day doing stupid things in their car because they are using their phone.

Whatever you do, don't change the music while you're in motion.

That same line of thought would apply to talking to passengers in your car.

Except the ordinance doesn't stop people from talking on their phones. It just requires them to do it hands-free, which isn't what causes the distraction.

Or when traffic is stopped, which is a pretty common sense thing that shouldn't require legislation.

This is one of those things where "it shouldn't apply to me, but that dumbass over there should get a ticket."

No. You don't have to hold passengers in your hand or watch their faces as they talk and you hear them. Not the same.

With the Austin traffic you're only doing like 15mph on I35 so I don't see what the big deal is.
