I myself have not played this game but from what I heard it is an online oriented/constantly updated type of game. I do not think the the traditional type of reviews apply to these games well, for one cannot just play the game for a few hours and give it a fair score. Like if someone is brand new to Dota, play it for a few hours and attempt to give it a score, the score would be meaningless cause really, he has not seen anything yet.
Pretty much. I am really enjoying the gameplay and the story. It isn't a perfect game. And it does appeal to particular tastes, just as every game does. But I haven't had this much fun with a game in quite a while and I do not regret the purchase. It seems many reviewers are being way to harsh based on their inflated expectations of what the game should be. The only thing I agree with is the poor revealing of the story in game: I do think Bungie erred in not having the Grimoire cards readable in a library in the Tower, so folks can review the lore without having to use the companion app or visit Bungie.net. My theory: Bungie is trying to do the "constantly updated living world" thing to deal with the used game market. The gambit is that by selling the initial game and offering a series of free challenges and updates and expansions along side the standard paid DLC, that gamers might hold on to the game longer and remain engaged. Hopefully, this will lead to fewer trade-ins and more new purchases (so the devs see the money). I like the risk Bungie is taking in providing a game world that will be regularly updated. Of course, it depends on how much more story they provide without requiring DLC. And it will be even cooler if the updates actually open up more explorable territory, in part based on the collective activity of the guardians. If Bungie delivers on the promise ( which is unclear at this point ) of updating the story and expanding the world, then even playing 1,000 hours week one will not let one get what the game is about. If Bungie doesn't do more with the game world than re-run story missions at higher difficulties and re-quires DLC purchases for more story exposure, then I will be disappointed. In short, it is up to Bungie to make the critics look hasty. But of course, then these same critics will pat themselves on the back and claim Bungie made the changes in response to their harsh reviews. For now, I am looking forward to the rest of the September mission updates.
The only thing "bad" about the game is the story. You of course would have no idea since you haven't played it. Why are you even posting in this thread still? You're starting to act like Salvy/Scarface.
Um, no, you're the one acting like Salvy/Scarface. I am not bashing Destiny. In none of my posts have I done so. I am merely trying to say that there is room for legitimate difference of opinion, while you're saying that any critic who awards Destiny less than an 8/10 is wrong. You don't respond to any arguments, you just bash people who disagree with you. From Gamespot's review (a 6/10): Kevin spent about 40 hours playing Destiny, playing every story mission, every strike mission many times, every competitive match type many many many times, and being glad he had such good friends--and found such nice strangers--to play with. So the guy spent 40 hours on it, and pointed out plenty of shortcomings that are not the story, but you just assume he's wrong about everything without even reading the review. And 22/51 critics award it less than an 8, and apparently they're all wrong and stupid too. Yeah, clearly I'm the biased one.
I'm sorry I have better things to do with my time than read some 5 paragraph essay where you argue about journalistic ethics. Here's the thing you're not understanding: I don't...give...a...****. As for "bashing you", did I really hurt your feelings? Also did I post anywhere that someone "had" to give it an 8? No, I didn't, so stop making **** up. I said 6.5 or a 6, or anything in that range is ludicrous for a game with the level of polish that Destiny has. Here's another example of the hypocritical stupidity surrounding this game. I won't bother discussing Polygon's ethics since lord knows that will offend the hell out of you (even though it's well known they're biased). The article says the game is mediocre, yet he can't stop playing it. Here's a secret: Mediocre games don't have massive amounts of people who can't stop playing them. I'm done arguing semantics with you. I really couldn't care less what you think of the game or not. I enjoy it, so do a lot of other people. Including stupid people who give it low review scores due to their own clearly overhyped expectations. And I'm spent. ----- http://www.polygon.com/2014/9/16/6153843/destiny-bungie-fun-but-flawed
Good job posting a quote from me that proves my point. Is there anywhere on there that says the game "needs to be scored a 8"? I didn't think so, you're approaching ignore territory.
You don't have a point. Your point is "screw people who disagree with me," which was quite clear from moment one. So to you, "anything in the 6-6.5 range is ludicrous" doesn't exclude the statement "needs to be scored an 8," especially since you posted an Andrea Pessino tweet saying just that? Or are you now saying that anything over a 6.5 is OK? Please tell me, oh great arbiter of which scores are acceptable and which aren't. I might get on your ignore list? Gee, I'm weeping bitter tears over here.
Is anyone remotely close to Level 26 yet. I'm interested in taking on one of those Vault Raids and apparently 26 is the minimum to jump on. I'm only level 21 right now but want to gauge people's interest because apparently you need six people and you all have to be friends. No randoms
Well, I gave you the benefit of the doubt -- but yeah you're a ****ing idiot. Then again I should have expected as much since you're the type that needs everyone to know you're an atheist. (Now I'm "bashing" you)
I'm almost 22 and I think I've seen a few CF guys in that range. I don't think anyone from here is 26 yet. Obviously I'm down whenever we all get in the range. I have 2 other people who are 20 that play with me, so hopefully we'll be there by the weekend.
If by "giving you the benefit of the doubt" you mean "not actually read your posts," which you said repeatedly that you hadn't, while continuing to bash anyone who disagreed with you without giving any reasons. Pretty amazing that you actually think you gave me the benefit of the doubt while explicitly saying that you weren't listening to begin with.
Ah, so you just came up with dumbest name you could think of and went with it. Got it. Just because I gave you the benefit of the doubt (I assumed you weren't a moron, which I was mistaken) doesn't mean I have to read your posts that rival the Iliad in length. I didn't have an issue with you disagreeing with me, I have an issue with you trying to force your mind set on me. Get over it. Anyway, back to talking about Destiny.
I played the beta. I also played the full release for several hours at a friend's house late last week. I also watched him play his higher-level character for a little while. I agree with Gamespot's assessment. I agree with AtheistPreacher's assessment. We have different opinions than you. That does not mean anyone is "bombing" the game. The end. Period. 1. Humongous advertising campaign. 2. Big-name developer. 3. Not a lot of great games for PS4/XB1 yet.
The mindset of respecting people who gave the game a lower score, rather than just bashing them without listening to their reasons? Gee, what a terrible mindset to try to force on someone... Also, I'm constantly amazed by people who can read hundreds of short forum posts a day, and then claim they can't read one long one. Miraculous, that is!
Uh, is there an echo in here? Let me post the same thing I did for him. I don't care whether you like the game or not. I was talking specifically about the reviewers, and yes...6.5 from a major outlet is considered bombing. 1. And? There's plenty of games with advertising budgets that people don't buy. 2. And? Same deal. 3. People are playing it on 360 and PS3 as well, what is your explanation for them? There are plenty of other good games to play on both systems, I would know since I've been playing them. Just because you don't like something doesn't make it bad.
I agree. Where did you get the idea that I didn't? And where in Drex's post did he say Destiny was bad? He just said he didn't like it.
