I am thinking of changing places with my AVR and putting the PS3 further from the floor to avoid dust. I put it lower because the PS3 uses BT and does not need line of sight for the remote.
It was fast for me. Calling for the box, getting the box, shipping dead unit to refurb arriving - I think 10 days total.
That's why mine is behind my tv. There is NOTHING behind it, or infront of it. There is like 6-7 inches from the back of my lcd tv to the wall, and nothing on either end of the table. It's up there to stay away from the crap from the rug like dust etc. And I can't see it because it's behind my tv, but I don't need too because of BT. The controllers etc, don't need line of sight.
Yeah, I was curious because from what I've heard, it seems to be happening to 60GB models more than other models (but that may just be because those are the older models, so they have had more use thus far). And to answer your above question, you should get your game back (I think you have to list that there is a game in there when you send them your PS3), but I've heard of people who did not get their game back at the same time as their unit.
I got a replacement system today. I had a 300 GB hard drive in the previous one, and tried to put it in my new PS3 and it says the drive needs to be formatted. Is there a way to get my game saves back?
I think you could hook it up to a cmoputer and pull the files off then go back and format it on the PSBeast. Not sure though.
I was thinking firmware versions are different from your drive and the machine. Could be wrong though.
The PS3 links each hard drive to that particular machine, so the PS3 automatically formats the drive whenever you put a new one in.
Got my ps3 back yesterday as well. Had to pay the $160 because the system was out of warranty but it was worth it because the one I got back looks brand new and it was better than paying $400 for a new one. It only took 13 days to get it back, from the first time I called to report the problem, to UPS dropping off the refurb unit at my front door. Not bad at all.
Yeah, it was a pretty poor choice by Sony. You may want to try formatting the drive that is in there, then attaching your 300GB externally via a USB cable. I'm not sure if you will be able to copy the saves like that, but it is worth a shot.
Not worth the trouble, I'll just format and deal with it. I have some saves backed up already from when I swapped hard drives the first time. Will this affect any downloaded games I've payed for?
Any games that you paid for will still remain downloadable for free under your PSN account. You'll probably just need to go into the PS Store, go under your download list (should be in the top right of the screen), and then redownload the games that you want from your list. There should be an option somewhere under the system settings that lets you use the PS3's backup utility to backup all your data to an external drive. Ideally, you would run this backup utility before swapping in a new hard drive. Then after you have the new hard drive installed and formatted, you would use the restore option in the backup utility to copy all your data back onto your new drive from the external drive.
