the online stuff is more than that. i like downloading demos and trailers etc. also you can play COOP on games online too. Like Rock Band. I use my xbox as my media center for mp3s, videos, photos too.
Really? An IBM processor and ATI GPU on a single chip? Seems unlikely, unless they hand the whole thing over to AMD/TSMC.
These are the games I play: NCAA Football (occasionally Madden too). Grand Theft Auto series Metal Gear Solid series Final Fantasy series (haven't played this series in a while, but FF13 has really sparked my interest in the series again). It was a pretty tough choice for me to upgrade this year since my #1 priority is NCAA Football and I was fairly happy with NCAA 08 on the PS2, but the online dynasty mode for the PS3 version is going to give me a ton more playability over the PS2 version. The sports games are what I really wish I could have HD for (didn't know about being able to see your receivers with widescreen until you told me). But, I am having a lot of fun playing MGS4 while awaiting NCAA's release.
That's something I've been reading for a while, although to be honest, I can't remember how much of it is just baseless speculation from random gaming sites or forums. I thought I read something about Microsoft researching this sort of thing, but maybe I'm wrong. I'm a bit busy tonight, but I'll look into it some other time. If nothing else, perhaps the single chip idea can be nixed, but the rest will still more or less follow (may not be quite as dramatic though).
Thanks a lot. I'll check on that, and perhaps wait for the new design. Currently, I live and work in Beijing. So if I were to buy one, it would be from a local store. Not from the US.
That's true. I was actually referring to the point of buying the same thing my friends buy, so we can play games together. But I understand its usage as a media center. Although my PC right now seems to work well in this regards. As for coop games, haven't found a good one.
Of course, that may not happen, but if it were, I would expect it in the next 6-9 months or so. If nothing else, while you wait, you might find a nice holiday deal or something. I think most (if not all) 360s in the US are the new models by this point, but I'm not sure what it is like in other regions. Probably not an issue (they've already been out in the US for ~9 months IIRC), but just make sure you don't get one of the older models (check for a HDMI port on 360 Premiums). It is possible MS might announce a new SKU at E3, making it even easier to distinguish between older and newer models.
Now I understand why you're asking me if I live in the US. I'll definitely make sure to get a newer model if I were to buy one. Although to be honest, the idea of "holiday sale" don't really apply to console sellers in Beijing... not even for Chinese New Year or other big holidays here. The way they're sold here is quite different from the US.
True, don't know why I didn't think about that. Guess I'm just too used to seeing good deals in the last 3-4 months of the year that I thought it was the case in multiple regions...besides parts of Europe of course.
As far as games and exclusives go, the 360 dominates. Especially if First-Person Shooters are your thing...... or Fable 2......
Kind of touched on this earlier, but the FPS genre is pretty much the same on both IMO. Of course, I suppose controller preference or something could factor into this. Now when it comes to RPGs like Fable 2... In the long run, the PS3 will probably have an edge in number of exclusives due to how many games their internal studios can put out; in fact, while I don't particularly care to start looking at lists, the number of AAA exclusives released on both are probably about the same at this point. Of course, quantity != quality. It won't do Sony any good if they put out 10 games like Lair every year. And even if they were all great games (unlikely), the 360 might still have the edge when it comes to certain genres (like Western RPGs). So yeah, back to what I said earlier, both systems have some great exclusive games and will continue to get some great exclusive games.
I originally bought an Xbox 360 for the purpose of purchasing Halo 3. I initially was pleased with how the system performed - but did find that it did emmit a loud noise once the system was turned on. Than the RROD occured and i had to wait until i got another Xbox. Soon after i bought GTA and Vegas 2 and thought that it wasn't too bad. The moment i saw Metal Gear Solid 4 was being released i ran and got a PS3. I was surprised at how quiet the system was. If every system is like this than i give a huge thumbs up to Sony, and question Microsoft. I'm definately a huge fan of the PS3 over the 360 - but that's accredited to games i'm really eager to play being on the Playstation - most notably now Star Wars: Force Unleashed - i cannot wait until that's released. On a side note.. After finishing MGS4 i've begun another game on the hard level and i thought i'd heard and read that once you see Otacon and his little invisible mate near the start of the game - you received all the items you had in the last game - but i didn't. Was i meant to? Or am i just living in a deluded state?
I was interested in the game until I learned that LucasArts basically got rid everyone who worked on the game. Doesn't sound good, but I guess I could hope that didn't have anything to say about the game's quality. Maybe they just went way over budget or something. BTW, maybe I just misread your post, but Force Unleashed isn't exclusive to PS3. edit: Actually, that LucasArts stuff might be a rumor or slightly inaccurate. Guess we'll find out. Make sure you load the data the you saved at the end when you completed the game. This will start your new game. If you just went straight to new game, you won't receive any items that you earned through your previous playthrough(s).
I was a massive fan of the Knights of the Old Republic game on the old xbox where you could choose whether you went to the dark or light side - so i was just really excited to see another game that could get me as involved. I'm not sure if it's on other platforms it's just that i've only seen it promoted for the PS3. Ahh.. i did just turn on the playstation and start a new game - i'll give that a try when i get a chance to get back on there. Thanks Cola.
Force Unleashed will actually be released on 7 different platforms, including the N-Gage. Of course, most of those won't be like the 360/PS3 versions (maybe the Wii/PS2). Along with the stuff you mentioned, I was actually pretty interested in some of the tech they have in the game. One thing that bothers me about a lot of multiplatform games is that they often promote themselves as if they are exclusive to one console.
you know those guys did make a little xbox 360 game <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" id="gtembed" width="480" height="392"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=28091"/> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=28091" swLiveConnect="true" name="gtembed" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" allowFullScreen="true" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="392"></embed> </object>
Unfortunately i'm at work and can't watch that.. Don't even think i'll be able to for another few days since i'm working 13 hour days at the moment. What's the game by the way? And genre etc? If you don't mind replying with basic knowledge. (sorry for the numerous posts guys)
Actually graphic is one of the things that are lower on my list of preference. Even after buying the PS3, I still haven't started putting in the Assassin's creed and Devil May Cry 4 that are collecting dust on my book shelves (though I have played NCAA football and NBA 2k8 quite a bit). Instead I've spent most of my time going through playing all the PS2 (finally started and beat the orginal Devil MC) and gamecube games on my Wii that I haven't had a time to finish yet. I am more slanting towards game play, but I was just finding that there are plenty of good gameplay games on "current gen" that I haven't finished for me to held off my PS3 purchase for a while.
Mass Effect http://www.xbox.com/en-us/games/m/masseffect/ its a space rpg/action game like KOTOR made by the same people excellent reviews all across the board.
