Should be sweet, they should have had this basic functionality in the beginning

Thinking back about it, they didn't even have background downloading or upscaling at launch, which are even more basic. IIRC, they couldn't even output Blu-ray movies in 720p and games in 1080i (or vice versa, can't remember).

Now they need to work on the firmware update that allows SCEA to release PS1 games on the PSN that are already available in Japan. :)

Crap, would it have been faster to download it via the website and update via USB or through the PS3? Now my PS3 is out of commission while I download it.

Are you asking if it would be faster to download via a PC? Probably about the same. I haven't tried it, but I think this is the link to the PC download (don't think it is on the US PS site yet):

Apparently the PS Store got updated a bit. Super Stardust HD has a patch out now as well in case anyone wants to mess with the trophy stuff. I think it is the only game that supports it right now, until other patches come out.

Downloaded really fast for me. Surprising. Trophy thing is fun, looks cooler than I expected. I never cared for it in the first place.

Will they have a 40g backward compatible ever?

I haven't read anything about it.

It would be nice if they let you "earn" things by getting trophies, or reaching a certain level I guess. Maybe some free/cheap games, access to a closed beta, some Home stuff, etc.

Rumors say yes. But who knows.

How would I update my PS3 if i don't have a internet connection for it. i have internet on my computer. my PS3 connects via wi-fi but I think with a weak signal and error can't connect to server comes up. It has been trying to update for the past week so I guess it is an older update. Same when I put in GTA4. I am guessing I could download the update and burn it on a CD and then load that in the PS3 manually.... ????????????

Use a USB flash drive. You can go to the Sony site and download the patches from there and put them on a stick. Then put the stick in the usb port on the front of the PS3. The download comes with instructions on exactly wher eot go to get the update to work.

Hey, what's the PS online name thing again?

I'm trying to search for the thread with all the handles in it. Just got my PS3 online for the first time.

Looks like FW 2.40 has fixed the DTS HD-MA 7.1 glitch. Now I'm getting sound from the rear center channels on a couple of New Line Blu-ray titles that weren't working before.

The PS3 is essentially a perfect Blu-ray player now. :D

Anyone have a link to the thread with all the PS3 handles? I can't find it, don't know what they are called.

Did the 2.40 firmware get pulled or something? Has anyone been able to auto update to it this afternoon?

Looks like they took the update down and are looking into any issues it may cause. Apparently, some people had problems with their PS3s after updating, although I didn't even notice that anyone was having problems until just now. FWIW, I don't seem to be having any problems.
