I was pumped about this, but I'm streming an Xvid movie from my PC and with Nero Media Home and there's still a major lag. It seems that it's still strying to transcode it. I copied a video directly and it plays fine from the PS3 hard drive, but it takes FOREVER to copy. Is there a way to stream directly from the PC without using a media server??
Deleted double edit: screw all that, torrents work...here's the torrent http://www.rocketredrockers.net:6969/torrent.html?info_hash=e8e60fc5845cb165583745470d18e4fb02cbf427 I just spent the last hour tryin to get my media server working, no dice. I guess I could just put it on a flash drive, but Id really rather use the media sharing capabilities of my pc to allow me to access the files directly from the pc to the ps3. I keep running into the dreaded DLNA Error 2103 when Im tryin to access the files that are listed after choosing from the PS3 listing of media servers. any ideas there?
R2K: Throw whatever you want to test out on a flash drive or DVD-R and give it to Derek. I can test it out if you'd like as well. Unless you've already uploaded your stuff somewhere.
I didn't really have any problems setting up media streaming, so I'm not really sure how to help. I did use Tversity, so maybe you guys should see if that helps: http://tversity.com/home (contains FAQ/Support as well) Seemed pretty easy to setup, although some things can still be a little buggy or needlessly complicated.
well, I isnt like I dont have a flash drive, Im just tryin to fix something that I want working anyway. besides, arent you guys setup for torrents? its just a 7M file, so it shouldnt take too long to get.
For some reason, I'm not able to download the file (or it is really slow to startup or something). I never had any problems with your other torrents; I didn't have any problems trying to download the highlights to the last game for example. I don't use torrents all that much, so perhaps something is wrong on my end.
Bit torrent. Simple. Download yourself a bit torrent client (I use Azureus), and then head to isohunt.com for your Heroes and Lost torrents. I just ran a search myself, and it looks like they're all there, with plenty of seeds. Enjoy.
and i heard that 360 is also getting the Divx update right? But 360 doesn't have a connection for flash memories, so you can put Divx file onto a memery stick and play it there, but you CAN transfer them file from PC's hard drive to the 36+'s hard drive and then play it... Is this too confusing? I'm selling my Wii now(disapointed with it, the motion control is just gimmick), I'm think whick console I should pick, 360 Elite with 120gb hard drive(better games) or 40Gb hard drive PS3 (Blu-Ray), the prices are about the same.. Give me some suggestions pls..
the 360 already had the dashboard update to play divx videos you can use a USB flash drive in the 360, just like with the PS3
yes, WMP11 it is supposedly DLNA-compat, and my network is setup correctly. the PS3 sees the media server component of WMP, and even lists out media files when you choose it from the XMB, but when you try to do anything with the files, it returns the error and fails. RC, just checked the tracker, it shows 10 completed downloads, was yours one of them? Im probably not gonna have time to mess with my PS3 today, busy at work and stuff....so if you give it a shot and it works, would ya post and let me know?
I wasn't one of the ones that completed it (probably should have left my client running), but I tried it just a couple of minutes ago and it downloaded fine. Everything seems good. The PS3 plays the video just fine (from a memory stick), and it worked for media streaming too. Didn't really feel like testing remote play, but I can test it later if you want me to. FWIW, I never had much luck with WMP11 either. I think all I got to work was the streaming of music and pictures. Of course, I didn't give it much of a chance since I was looking for something that would convert videos as well (at the time, I couldn't play WMV and DivX videos on my PS3, so I needed something that could convert and stream videos).
eh, Im not worried about remote play honestly. As long as it works on the ps3 without any additional tweaking on the users parts, thats fine. Now, as for the quality issue, there is a reason why I used custom matrixes, it much improves the finished product...what was your impression of the difference between that one and others you have watched?
I'm probably not the best judge for this kind of thing, but you are right about there being a loss in quality. I personally don't mind the difference since I can still follow the action pretty well...not to mention I've seen worse when streaming games online. But maybe others wouldn't feel the same way. BTW, relating back the firmware update, the Folding@Home PS3 Client has a new update as well. It now has an automatic shutdown option, and you can also listen to music on your HDD while folding.
Ok, I downloaded some movies and put them into a USB memory stick, and then I plugged it to my new PS3(updated), it recognized the USB device, but not the divx/avi. files, what's going on??? Also, I tried to change the backgound pic by putting one jpg4 file into the same memory stick, and then i went to the pS3's photo-section, it doesnt recognize anything? What i did wrong? Can somebody help? Pls!
Hmm, not sure what to say. Last night I was trying to play a few divx files I had just downloaded. It took about 10 minutes for all but one of them to show up. The last file showed up about 15 minutes after the others. The network connection between the PS3 and PC may just be slow for whatever reason.
I think you need to pictures in a folder called PICTURES otherwise the PS3 won't see the files on the USB drive.
Can the PS3 recognize the file but not play it (says data type not supported or something like that), or can you not even find it on the memory stick (won't show up on the memory stick)? If it is the latter, then what Poloshirtbandit said should basically fix it (think you need a folder for Music, Pictures, Videos, etc.). Or you can do what I do and press Triangle when the memory stick is selected (instead of X IIRC), and this will display all files. That way you don't even have to mess with creating folders.
