I own a slim. Not sure if you knew, but you'll only be able to transfer unprotected save files, pictures, and prob music/videos. Everything else will have to be downloaded again.

I had to reinstall all my games + update, psn games, home + home downloads, re-sync trophies, psn account etc. Pain in the butt and disappointed because a few game saves didn't transfer over (over 40+ hours on each of those games). Sony needs to figure out how existing owners can transfer all their data to a new ps3.

A neat feature they implemented is bravia (hdmi) sync? It actually works on any TV that has the anynet+ feature. When you have it turned on, the tv will turn on when you turn on your ps3. You can also use your tv remote to control the xmb. I guess this is good for people who don't want to use the controller to watch movies. This way, you can control everything with one remote instead of two.

Overall, the slim is pretty sweet. I believe some websites have done tests and it uses roughly half the electricity of the fat and outputs roughly half the heat. The slim is quiet under all conditions. My old 60gb would get a little noisy after being on for 10-15 minutes. I know most people wouldn't upgrade/downgrade to a slim if they own a bc ps3, but for me it is worth it.

I'm getting my PS3 Slim on Monday. I'm going to upgrade the HD to 500GB right away. Is there a certain brand to avoid or are they all pretty much the same?

Depends on you. Playing PS2 games on the PS3 does have its advantages (e.g., virtual memory cards). But if you don't expect to play PS2 games all that much, probably not a big deal.

Personally, I expect to play PS2 games a lot, so I'd probably go for the 60GB PS3.

Yeah me too, and I can't really wait and hope they do come out with a PS 3 slim with backwards compatibility cos that might be never. Dangit.

I don't know, I can agree with the earlier poster who said once they stop selling PS2s, they may activate backwards compatibility in the PS3 via an update. Either that or just start adding it to newer ones. I guess last resort is make most games available on the PSN store.

Not to get in your business, but why? The hard drive space? I only ask because I have a 60 as well and hadn't thought about getting rid of it. I'll more than likely just change the hard drive out at some point.

    1. It's small - living in a small dorm, with a 360 already hooked up, there isn't a lot of space for a big PS3.
    2. Don't use BC - I would consider myself a casual gamer, I play sports games, FPS, etc. the games I want to play are PS3 games, just like I didn't play PS1 games when I had a PS2, I don't really play PS2 games on my PS3.
    3. Uses less power and I heard that the processor is a little bit faster.

So given that I never use the BC feature, there are no cons for replacing my 60GB with the Slim.

Cool. I don't use the BC too much, but still play FFXII occasionally. I also think the old ones look a little better, but understand the space concerns.
