Sony as a whole has to rethink their business models. they posted a massive loss. They are losing ground on their best product (TVs) to Samsung They are behind Microsoft and Nintendo on the video games department They have no chance to doing anything against Apple despite being the king of portable music back in the day (the Walkman) Camera wise, they are losing to Canon All of this stuff could have been fixed. If they were more aggressive in their pricing on TVs like Samsung, they wouldn't be losing to them. The PS3 is too expensive and didn't launch with the titles that people wanted They F-ed up royally on the MP3 players, they chose their own stupid ATAC or whatever standard for cameras, they still use they expensive memory stick while everyone else is using SD cards As far as movies, they need to come up with something better than Spiderman 3, that movie was just ok.
More or less agreed. I don't really pay that much attention to Sony outside of their gaming division, but it always confused me how poorly they could do in some of their divisions (usually due to really dumb decisions), especially after having some early success (EX: TV division). They've generally been OK in the past with the gaming division posting great profits to offset some bad losses, but that isn't the case anymore. They have to start turning around some of those other divisions, along with the gaming division...although I do think the gaming division is more or less on track to making decent profits in the future. They got some good tech and are pretty diverse, but it never really seems like they use that to their advantage.
Sony's TV dominated forever dude, since the 80s, the Trinitron was the stand for being the best TV you can buy. How did they drop the ball on LCD, Projection, and Plasma? Projection, they had a great product, SXRD and WEGA. But Samsung is the top dog with DLP. Plasma, they did make plasma, but Pioneer and Panasonic rule that realm. LCD. Samsung is killing them. Now Samsung will release the Luxia model tvs to compete with the Sony XBRs. I thought they use to make good cell phones. what the hell happened there?
Is that division doing poorly too? Like you said, I thought it used to be doing pretty good (one of the few bright spots at Sony), although maybe that was due to it being a partnership with Ericsson (?). No idea how they're doing currently.
