i didnt think they were too many twist, they all fit in perfectly, and I got all my questions answered. The last part with you knwo who, was perfect cuz it answered all my questions, idk i guess we all have our opinions, but I thought it was epic. and the fight on top of the rooftop was epic.
Seemed like there were about as many twists in MGS4 as past MGS games (certainly as many MGS2 from what I can recall). I've come to expect crazy plot twists within the last few hours of any MGS game. Although as I pointed out earlier, I don't think too many of the twists in MGS4 are that difficult to believe (more difficult to believe that things didn't occur the way they had). I was expecting crazier things actually. astros148, if you want to use spoiler tags, type: [ spoiler] Text that contains spoilers [/spoiler] But remove the blank space at the beginning (if I took it out, "Text that contains spoilers" would have been hidden by a "show spoiler" button). MGS4 sold a million in its first week in Europe: http://www.mcvuk.com/news/30959/Metal-Gear-Solid-4-hits-a-million-in-first-week Up to ~1.5M, not counting whatever it sold in North America.
Wouldn't that put it at 2 million sold in a week? 500 million each for US/Japan and 1 million for Yuro. That's very good for a PS3 game?
We only have numbers from Europe (1M) and Japan (~500K), but I suppose you could assume that it sold at least 500K in the US to put it at ~2M. MGS4 seems to be doing about as well, if not better, than previous MGS games, so yeah, I'd say that is pretty good for a PS3 game. But the number of hardcore MGS fans is probably about the same, so it would be nice if MGS4 continued to sell well past its first week.
MGS4 has shipped over 3M copies already: http://ps3.ign.com/articles/884/884552p1.html Seems like it will easily surpass the ~4M that MGS3 put up, maybe putting it around the 6M-7M that MGS1 and MGS2 did IIRC. Guess it helps that the game is bundled with the PS3 too. And yeah, I promise not to bump the thread anymore with updates on MGS4 sales.
Just finished the game last night. Loved it. It definately got better the further the game progressed in my opinion. I finished with the rank of 'Eagle' - yep - i guess i did rack up too many; BOOM headshot. I finished the game on the medium setting but just as i did in MGS2 i'm going to replay it with every progressive skill level. I don't understand how so many people didn't like MGS2... It was the favourite of the series for me - i think only because i'm not too high on prequals - thus why i couldn't really get into Snake Eater. I played the Big Shell on the Extreme difficulty setting - but could get no further than the Harriet Jet on the bridge. I must have played that for hours all up and still couldn't get past it. I guess some people will find the first line of my Spoiler as somewhat of a major give away to the storyline so don't read it if you haven't finished the game... Spoiler I'm so glad Snake didn't shoot himself.. I couldn't help but feel a little saddened at the thought that he had committed suicide. The cutscenes at the end dragged on dramatically, but it was expected since it was ending a series somewhat - and had to explain 3 previous games. I definately agree with the poster who mentioned some pathetic/sassy storylines towards the end - Meryl and Johnny wanting to marry? In the middle of a gunfight? And i did somewhat cheat in this game... I didn't have any idea how to beat Psycho Mantis. All i did was waste ridiculous amounts of ammunition on her, and her stupid puppets to no avail. I would definately never have known to shoot at the dolls she had and use them against her. *sigh* I hate using walkthroughs overall a brilliant game in my opinion. Definately will be playing it again and again. Can't believe i bought an Xbox 360 specifically for Halo 3... And as soon as i saw Metal Gear Solid 4 had been released (i'm in Australia) 3 weekends ago - i drove straight to the store and picked it up.... Pretty much the only beneficial thing about working full time when you're 20... Can go out and buy what you want, when you want. sorry for the long post guys....
Yo, I wanted to hear peoples opinion on something. Im still new here so I cant start a thread, but this is pretty close to being on topic. Im deciding to either buy Grand theft Auto 4 or Assasins Creed. I played GTA for about 2 hours, and I havent tried AC but from the video reviews and highlights, it looks like a great game. But yeah suggestions?
I really liked MGS2 as well, although I think I can sort of understand why people don't like it (not counting the "Raiden sucks" complaints or things like that). Prior to playing MGS4, I checked out most of the cutscenes for all the games, and I did notice quite a difference between say MGS2 and MGS3 (and of course MGS4). I really enjoyed the story of MGS2 and all the little details that went into it, but after thinking about it some, it probably could have been presented in a better way. There's a lot of important things that could be missed due to the presentation style IMO. IIRC, I think on my first playthrough, I either forgot or misunderstood the true meaning of the S3 plan (I remembered it being the first, "false" definition given in the game). Even reading about it some more, I don't think I fully understood the point of it. Of course, MGS4 makes it a lot more clear what the Patriots were trying to do with MGS2...and kind of makes me appreciate it even more. I guess I was lucky that my first MGS game was Snake Eater (I went MGS3->MGS1->MGS2->MGS4). I don't think I'd have a problem with prequels, but I didn't realize it bothered people so much. BTW, I was bored and managed to check out everything in the MGS database. There are better things to do I'm sure, but some of the stuff is pretty interesting to read. I kind of like some of the ways they mixed in real events with the MGS storyline. Get MGS4. I only played a little bit of AC and haven't played GTAIV, but I'd probably buy GTAIV. If nothing else, buy GTAIV and rent AC. GTA would definitely offer more in terms of gameplay hours, especially if you count online play.
I loved the gameplay of MGS2. I just hated the story line. The part towards the end where Raiden and Snake are fighting together was awesome. I was hoping something like that would be in MGS4.
^^ I skimmed the database. I was hoping they'd explain Raikov a little more and how he's related to Raiden.
Really? I guess it would be interesting, but I just saw him as nothing more than a joke character to play off the negative criticism Raiden got in MGS2. Of course, if they put a decent amount of info behind Johnny Sasaki, I guess Raikov deserves some too. Maybe he'll be back in MGS5 or something. Maybe he's at Area 51 and Raiden gets to confront him, or something crazy like that.

Holy crap. I just finished Act 3 yesterday. Despite being the most tedious act...I was blown away by the end. The production values in this game are movie quality.
You can just keep calling Otacon for any of the bosses and he'll eventually tell you how to beat them. No walkthrough necessary.
Holy moly. I just finished the game. I may very well have to promote this game to my favorite game ever ahead of FF7. The ending was out of this world. Act 4 was amazing...so many memories rushing back (I loved the way they added in the flashback voices during certain parts in that Act). I even shed a single tear at Spoiler what I thought was the end of the game. Then they came back after the credits and hit me up with so much more information. At first I thought Snake was going to live and the gunshot thing was a ruse...but then the credits started rolling and I thought he really was dead. When the credits stopped, I thought, "Great, now it is gonna be a lame ending where they cop out and have Snake live." But as the ending kept going on, I actually like it better than if they would've ended it after the first credits. I also kind of called that there was going to be a second ending after the credits because they listed a voice actor for Big Boss, and I thought to myself, "Wait a second, I don't remember there being any parts where they had Big Boss talking...". Also, right as soon as they showed Big Boss, I called it that the bio-mort was Solidus. I instantly remembered when Naomi mentioned that Solidus was an exact clone... God, what a sweet game. Totally justified my purchase of a PS3. More engrossing story and better production values than a lot of movies I have seen.
A friend of mine picked up the game about a week ago. He only played a little bit of MGS1 and none of the rest, so I didn't know if he'd like the game. But he finished it pretty quickly and is already on his 2nd (or possibly even 3rd) playthrough right now. I think he was still pretty confused by the storyline, but I tried to explain some things as best as I could. Yeah, I felt the same way. Spoiler Before the first credits, I thought it it would pan away from Snake and just let us decide what happened. But then I heard the gunshot. Spoiler I probably would have noticed that quicker, but I was hung up on "Voice of God - Hideo Kojima." I knew it was true p), but I kept wondering when and where he showed up in the game. I still haven't figured that out. Spoiler I'm actually mad I didn't make this connection earlier in the game. I even remember wondering why they couldn't just use the body of Solidus instead of Big Boss, which probably would have been easier.
Spoiler Yeah, I'm kind of a stickler for understand as much of a story as I can as things move along, and there were a handful of things that didn't exactly add up as I went through the game and I made a mental note of them. One of them just happened to be when Naomi said, "And that's why they created Solidus..." I thought it was a little strange to stick that in there and not elaborate on it. Another example would've been with Drebin. At the time he was explaining things, it just didn't seem plausible to me that all these thousands of Drebins around the world would have access to erasing records on the system-side each time they inserted a counterfeit ID-chip...of course, this was explained as well. I really only have one major question that I haven't sorted out: If I understand the story correctly... Spoiler Basically, if you look at the series as a whole, Snake (and Raiden in the 2nd game) was actually the "bad guy" the whole time. Snake was just a pawn executing the will of The Patriots. In the first two 8-bit games, Snake was sent in to quell Big Boss' attempts to establish the "Outer Heaven" that opposed Zero's interpretation of The Boss' will. Ocelot and Liquid in MGS1 were trying to take over REX to use against The Patriots. Solidus and Liquid/Ocelot in MGS2 were trying to take over GW to use against The Patriots. And in MGS4, Liquid/Ocelot was trying to destroy JD and set everyone free from The Patriots' stranglehold (it's arguable, and according to the story likely doubtful, that Liquid/Ocelot would have used his control of the newly promoted GW for "world domination" like it was presented to us throughout the game. He just wanted to release Big Boss and end the reign of The Patriots). Ultimately, Snake only becomes the "good guy" because Naomi's virus was able to take down JD (Naomi = the real hero?). Anyway, this leads to my question: So, since Liquid/Ocelot is basically trying to do "good" and destroy The Patriots, and since EVA was on Ocelot's side in the past and working toward the same basic goals (release Big Boss and stop Zero/Patriots), then why did EVA oppose Liquid/Ocelot and try to keep the bio-mort from him? Was this just a ruse by EVA to keep up the appearance that Liquid was not really Ocelot (with EVA ultimately only perishing because of FOXDIE)? Did EVA not know what Ocelot's ultimate plan was? This part just seems confusing to me right now.
Spoiler That's basically how I understand it. Although I like to think of Ocelot as the "good guy", at least in the same sense that his mother was "good" in MGS3. Both put on an act to make it seem like they're horrible villains, but in actuality, they're just playing they're part in a plan that would change things for the better. "Snake" may get the glory, but they probably did the most work and ultimately sacrificed their lives. Spoiler This bugs me too, and in fact, a lot of EVA's actions confuse me given the details we learn at the end. I'm assuming that perhaps you're on the right track, and either she just simply didn't know about his plan or this was the best way to keep the plan going (move Snake along the right path, keep the Patriots from suspecting anything, etc.). Not really enough evidence here in either case though IMO...unless I missed it.
