those games were all about hand eye coordination. The new games are all about figuring out some simple puzzle. They both seem easy to me. I think some side scrollers were difficult out of mistake. I remember getting stuck on different parts of Zelda II because something was just not explained clearly. The only games that i can think of that are exceptionally hard are the side scrolling fighters (anything made by Capcom or Neo Geo, put it on the hardest level). The 3d fighters are easy for button mashers to win at.
Well, GTA was multi platform but I do know many people who bought PS3s because of it. MGS4 will have fans that have been holding out to go and get one. Likewise, if they were to release a good Final Fantasy game on the PS3, I might be persuaded to get one. Their library is kind of weak right now but like i said, overall, I believe the PS3 is the better console.
Well, if you're a fan of the series, I think it will be worth your money because I followed it throughout the years and I think alot of effort have been put into this game. The production values should be worth the bucks. I'm still waiting for a good game to buy a new console...so far the only fun games are the ones on WII like smash brothers but the WII doesn't seem to be able to do much for its future. I'm just picky I guess. I hope you all enjoy this game. I'm sure you'll be spending 100 hours on it, ahaha.
GTA is the biggest game out there, bigger than FF and MGS combined (could probably even throw in Halo and/or COD). Yet it didn't really provide a big jump in sales for either the 360 or PS3. One analyst thought it would help sell 500K PS3s IIRC, yet 360+PS3 sales didn't even reach that number. I love MGS4, but if GTA didn't really do a good job of selling 360s and PS3s, I'm not really sure MGS4 will push a lot of PS3s by itself. Of course, every little things counts. Maybe GTA4+MGS4+FF13 will help sell PS3s. And yeah, I'm assuming that one month's sales (or actually less than that) were enough to prove that GTA4 wasn't much of a system seller.
lol, hilarious!! it took me years to stop pronouncing it as "Ri-u" when i knew it was supposed to be "Re-u". Its hard to change an old habit.
Examples of games I remember being easy back in the day: Double Dragon II, Streets of Rage 2 (on hardest difficulty), Ninja Gaiden II, the Karate Kid. After not playing those in forever, I now find them very hard. Harder than just about any modern game I can think of. Examples of games I remember being hard back in the day: 8 Eyes, Double Dragon I, Double Dragon III, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. After not playing THOSE in forever, I find that they are so impossibly difficult that only a crazy person would play them.
I do think a lot of the older games were more "cheap" than they were difficult, although I guess that is more or less the same thing. Kind of like the 1st FF (and maybe the other NES FF, can't remember). Unlike other FF games, if you tried to target an enemy that was already dead, the game wouldn't automatically assign you a new target and your turn was wasted (not sure if I explained that well, but I think those that have played the game know what I mean). It makes the game more difficult, but that's not really something I appreciate...although this was possibly more of a system limitation, but I'm sure a lot of games were difficult due to similar reasons. I have similar complaints with the SMT games (instant death attacks make the game more difficult at times, but it seems like a cheap tactic to me). Games are definitely easier today, although I don't really mind it. I like a good challenge here and there (especially when I replay a game), but if I end up spending an 30+ minutes on some frustrating part of a game, it hurts the game more than it helps IMO. I tend to play most games on normal or even easy because of that. Now when I replay the game, I might up the difficulty level, although I haven't really done that too much lately. That, or play racing, sports, puzzle, fighting, etc., games that I'd be more likely to try out on harder difficulties (usually due to a lack of a storyline). It would be nice if most games really made it challenging (although not necessarily cheap) on particular difficulty settings (like Crushing, or whatever), but I'd rather games stay about where they are in terms of their normal difficulty levels. Of course, with online play being so important to a lot of games these days, some devs probably figure that even the best AI they could come up with wouldn't come close to comparing to human opponents, so why even bother coming up with some sort of super AI for those that want a challenge. Gamersyde has "The First 10 Minutes" of MGS4. I haven't watched both videos yet, so I'm not sure what kind of spoilers they may have (of course, even if they're full of spoilers, it is the first 10 minutes): http://www.gamersyde.com/news_6627_en.html
Got the bundle pack (PS3 System w/ 80 gig hard drive, Dual Shock 3, & MGS 4) today from Amazon, and the game is tremendous so far. The graphics, as to be expected, are stunning. The scenery looks so authentic that it's scary. The gameplay is great as usual, and the cutscenes so far have been very entertaining. A shame I have my summer courses this upcoming Monday, but hopefully I can get a good amount of MGS 4 in by then.
It is essentially the same video I've seen 10+ times, but the "First 10 Minutes" video I linked to earlier is awesome. If that gets me excited, I can't imagine what it will be like when I actually play the game and see something new. It looks like my copy of MGS4 was shipped today, so maybe I'll actually get to play it before the end of the week. *crosses fingers*
Not a breaking point for me either. I'm still getting one...it's on the way as a matter of fact. I just want a quiter/cooler system since I own a 360. That thing sounds like it's about to take off.
oh trust me, the 90nm is still wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy quieter than the 360. check this out <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/a_7hGCFdaa8&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/a_7hGCFdaa8&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
None of those games are really hard per se, just insanely tedious at times. I remember trying Double Dragon III and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as well, and I thought it was more cheap as hell than hard really. Well, DD3 wasn't that cheap, just a little boring. I remember making it pretty far during a rental and then just stopping because I didn't give a ****. I don't know if I'd ever really want to play another beatemup ever again. I don't mind games being a little easier nowadays. To tell you the truth, when I get stuck on a boss or something, ****ing loading times piss me the **** off more than dying does. Esp if you have to go through cutscenes or even through parts of boring levels again over and over. And If I really want a challenge, I go for a fighting game.
Someone post about this game I know it came out today someone has to have it I wanted to know how good it is hopefully it's great.

The last MGS retrospective is up: <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" id="gtembed" width="480" height="392"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=35094"/> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=35094" swLiveConnect="true" name="gtembed" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" allowFullScreen="true" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="392"></embed> </object> They also have their video review up: Spoiler <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" id="gtembed" width="480" height="392"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=35051"/> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=35051" swLiveConnect="true" name="gtembed" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" allowFullScreen="true" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="392"></embed> </object> The spoilers aren't as bad as they could have been (nothing from the story is directly spoiled I think), but I'd probably recommend not checking it out if you don't want certain parts of the game spoiled. Maybe they were just trying to mislead me, but at least one part of the review seems to imply a pretty important scene (not exactly a surprise, but I didn't want to figure it out from watching the review). They also have plenty of other videos on the site.
