I'm just going to use a simple algorithm that computes a random number to find a winner (of course, I'll assign each user to a number). Speaking of which, I'll probably decide that in another 60-90 minutes or so. I'll mention who won here and send him/her an email through his/her BBS account (hopefully it is up-to-date...otherwise, the winner will have to let me know how to contact him/her). Ziggy, I'm assuming you wanted in too right? In fact, I've pretty much included everyone that posted in this thread, unless you said "I don't get it" or whatever in your post (I'm assuming that means you're not interested ).
I just pre-ordered this last week at EB Games, and got the Kratos DLC code as well. Can't wait. Sucks though that there's a 1GB/day cap through my RezNet connection so I can't download the Beta, or the 2K9 demo for that matter.
Congrats to Rocketeer. I'll be sending you an email through the board via your profile that contains the Beta key as well as some info on how to activate it. If you'd prefer that I send it to another address, let me know and I'll resend it. Let me know if you experience any problems. Thanks to everyone that participated in the thread so far. I wish I had more than just one to give away, didn't realize there would be quite as much interest. Maybe they'll open up the Beta to everyone in the last few days or something, which would be great (and a way to really perform a stress test on their servers...although they seem pretty buggy as it is).
"Played" this level last night after the servers finally got to working (if you haven't played FFX, ignore): <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Lf5p4JsXizk&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Lf5p4JsXizk&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> For some reason, these musical levels almost seem crazier to me than the actual game levels. That said, there are some crazy "regular" levels as well. Granted, not all levels are all that great, and even the best could use some tweaks, as you would expect given the circumstances. But I've been pretty amazed at what the community has been able to come up with in such a short amount of time using limited tools (in terms of what MM has put out and even what is available on all the levels). I'm not sure if this stuff will transfer over to the retail release (probably not if what I'm guessing unfortunately), but I think if this is an indication of what to expect, then I think gamers will be pretty satisfied with what LBP will have to offer. And on another note, I won a Pyramid Head object from a Silent Hill level too, which I was pretty happy about (although it could use some work). Some of the levels based on other games are actually pretty fun due to the setpieces I suppose. Going around pulling a block to open a door (which was supposed to be the PAL card for MGS1 in Shadow Moses) seemed pretty fun. I figured they would be pointless to play (and for some, that is true), but they've actually been more entertaining than I expected.
A little off topic, just received a Socom beta voucher. JECK-QEBJ-PFLQ Spoiler create a Japanese account to register it.
Now someone has made a working calculator in LBP: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZiRgYBHoAoU&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZiRgYBHoAoU&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> Played a great God of War level last night. The creator even recreated the treasure chests which you open by holding down R1. The level recreated the scene from GOW1, where you had to push a guy in a cage into a fire (although this time, it was a sackperson).
Here is a post from NeoGAF that lists a bunch of levels that have gotten a lot of attention: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=13115353&postcount=5559 Contains links to videos and stuff. This includes a lot of the levels I've been talking about, including the God of War level (God of War - Demon Skull). Unfortunately, searching for levels can be a bit difficult at times, although I think if you can find the author, you should be able to find the level (so may want to search by author instead of level name). And yet another musical level featuring a FF song: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/KWISz78AmOc&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/KWISz78AmOc&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
I'm on a roll today, another LBP voucher. Spoiler RLGD-97BG-GC6C That's the 7th key I've given away.....
I'll play LBP with you in a little bit. What's your psn name? Oh right...you have to complete the first three levels before you can play online (i think).
This looks absolutely boring -- what am I missing ? This game reminds me of the days of typing endless lines of code for the C64 so you could bounce a square 'ball' around the screen.
I agree. However, Im trying really hard to be open to it and I am, in some ways, forcing myself to like it. I dont know why. I have a 360, but Im also strongly considering getting a PS3 within the next few weeks, so Im trying to figure out what games I want in my collection. I need to see more of this game...its intriguing, but as of now, I just cant understand why this game is fun...or if it is fun, I dont see how its going to keep me entertained for long. I dont know.
I would love a code if anyone still has one. I think I still have my socom beta around somewhere....that game is awesome
LBP is a little hard to describe and understand at times if you haven't really spent a lot time checking it out (or preferably, playing it). That said, I think if you've checked out a lot of videos, including the examples of levels I posted here (not so much the embedded ones since those are just awesome concept ideas, but not necessarily fun to play), and read up on some previews...and you still aren't really impressed, then maybe the game isn't for you...not sure why though. I think a lot of the game's charm does come from actually playing it (preferably with friends), but I think you should still be able to have an idea of what it is like w/o playing it with a little bit of research. You might not understand it all, but you should be able to understand the main selling points for the game (IOW, you probably aren't missing anything). Or at least that's what I think. I don't know. Obviously, I've been following the game for a while, not to mention I've been playing it for the last week or so, so I definitely know what the best features of the game are. To spice things up, maybe you guys can try to explain what you think the game is about, and I (or someone) will reply on whether you got it right or wrong. Obviously, if you nail the concept for the game, then maybe the game isn't for you. On the other hand, if you seem to be misunderstanding something major about the game, I (or someone) can explain why feature X makes the game so great (or whatever). For example, I think if you find the basic gameplay mechanics of the game fun (basically the platforming), then I think the game would easily keep you entertained for a long time. Assuming all goes well, there will probably be hundred of thousands of new levels for the game after it ships. Every day, you could be playing brand new levels, at least a few of which will be pretty fun, innovative, unique, etc. And this assume you don't even bother playing with friends or try creating your own levels. Of course, if you don't like platforming, then the game might be a little difficult to find fun (although a few levels could spice things up with alternative gameplay styles...although I doubt puzzle, primitive racing, adventure/mystery, etc. type games would be much better).
