Gamestop and EBGames have started preordering video games for the coming PS3 console. Both retailers are preordering for $59.99 and have a shipping date of October 1st 2006 except for the long awaited Metal Gear Solid 4 who has a date of December 1st 2006. This is very good news because it means that Sony has spoken to major retailers and announced an approximate release date of Fall 2006 for the PS3 in North America. Here is a full list of games available for preorders: I-8 Condemned: Criminal Origins Dark Sector Devil May Cry 4 Dirty Harry Dog Tag Eyedentify Fifth Phantom Saga Fight Night Round 3 Formula 1 Gundam World Heavenly Sword Indiana Jones Killing Day Killzone 2 Metal Gear Solid 4 Metronome MotorStorm NioH Peter Jackson’s King Kong Possession Project Delta Psychopath Scarface: The World is Yours Spider-Man 3 Stranglehold Tekken The Darkness The Getaway 3 Theseis Vision Gran Turismo Warhawk Woot, going to go pre-order mines now!
Those dates are far from official. I'd crap my pants if MGS4 came out in December. Sounds just like GS/EB just wanted to start getting some preorders in on games. IIRC, same thing happened for the 360...and they were wrong.
awww boo, its just preorder for the games not the console. i guess i should of read it better before I cut and pasted the article.
Thank GOD!!! At last... a lauch date!!!! Thanks!!!! Any word on when there will be a launch? Sweet. I can't believe you beat RC Cola to this.
Just to be clear, all this amounts to is that EB/GS I guess put these games into their system, and thus, can take preorders for these games...assuming they're even PS3 games (a couple of questionable in the list, and some games have tentative titles). They just stuck in Oct 1 for most of the games (a Sunday BTW...not a typical day for new releases) just to give a rough idea for the release date I guess. Not really sure why MGS4 is different though...maybe they just wanted to make it stand out. So this is nothing really from Sony, just EB/GS from what I could tell. There is a event later in the month for retailers where I guess Sony could give them guesses on a release date (if they haven't done that prior to the event publicly), but again, that's not until later in the month. Perhaps Sony gave EB and GS preferential treatment? Eh...I doubt it. Either way, just a lot of guesses made so that these guys could get some credit card numbers. Nothing really important, although the list looks nice. You make Kojima sad.
this system is going to be so expensive. blu ray stand alone players are over $1000. I wonder why Sony is going to do about undercutting their own consumer Blu Ray players? why buy a regular BR player when you can get a PS3? im sure the system will rock, but what are they going to do against Xboxlive? Xboxlive is so much better than PS2 games online.
It will be interesting so see how they treat the PS3/Blu-ray situation. Only thing I can think of is that PS3 may not be the first BR device out in the US for Sony (or other BR companies), and besides, some people may just want to pay more for their BR device, kind of like how there are people will will pay $20K for a DVD player: http://www.joystiq.com/2005/12/09/20-000-dvd-player-makes-xbox-360-look-affordable/ One thing I heard early on was that most BR devices would be recorders, which would make it easier for the PS3 and other BR devices to coexist. That doesn’t seem to be the case though. As for the online stuff, check out some of my older threads on that subject: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=108176 http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=107204 Sony has something planned I think.
So this mean the PS3 will launch in Japan in late spring right? If thats the case, then they're right on scedule....but damn, an October US release is so far away. At least I have the 360 to tie me over.
i've been pretty happy with the 360. MGS4 looks amazing, but i'd prefer a game like Halo where you can play multiplayer and get a much longer life out of the game. I dont a game of all cinematics, no matter how cool they look.
I haven't seen really anything to suggest otherwise noize (late Spring JP release). There might be a slight delay since early on Sony said final kits would go out in December, but devs may not have really started getting them until very late December, early January...still very close though. However, Sony's SUPPOSED to have a Playstation Meeting-type deal this month, which they've yet to announce a date for. I'm really starting to get worried about that; if that event doesn't happen, I think a delay might be more likely. Either way, I think we'll have a much more firm idea of a release date by February 28th...hopefully. Just out of curiosity, have you seen the new multiplayer online gameplay offered in MGS3:Subsistence? Looks pretty fun to me and there were a couple of modes in it (one, Snake vs guards, has yet to be seen I think). Early impressions seem very positive, and it is supposed to be a testing ground for the online play that will be offered in MGS4. Not saying MGS4 will offer anything like Halo on a multiplayer level, but I think there will be more to the game than previous games in the series. Of course, there’s always UT 2007 (with M&KB), and hopefully I-8 or Killzone will be decent.
Ok, I'll hold onto it til the next FF game and Resident Evil games come out. The wife might leave me. But for Kojima, I'll take the risk.....
Devil May Cry 4 Indiana Jones Metal Gear Solid 4 Spider-Man 3 Tekken The Getaway 3 Vision Gran Turismo I'd get these on name alone.
