More PS3 rumors (DVR,Online service,US release,Final Devkits, and more)

PSM had a interesting article in their recent issue (March IIRC). Here's the article:

For those too lazy to check those out, here are some of the things the article mentioned:
Page 1

"President of Sony has made it clear that his company has an amibitious new online strategy."

"Cast aside any doubts and start gazing toward skyward, because thats where Sony is aiming with plans that go far beyond simple leaderboards and matchmaking."

"Sony has just delivered the final development hardware to U.S. game developers. We can confirm that developers have already begun meetings with Sony's support teams to make sure their games are compatible with the yet unnamed Online Service."

"Its very real, one source tells us. They (Sony) are dead serious about it. They've declared a full on assault on the latest version of Xbox Live!"

"The online service is being designed to also work with the PSP and its games. Think one, BIG Playstation network!"

And then page 2 talks about the following:

-One dev received final devkits in early January and noted that "it's even faster than we were expecting."

-Apparently, the PS3 will have some sort of DVR functionality, although it wasn't really explained how this would be done.

-Some PSP/PS3 features, such as sending pictures to your PS3 from your PSP or streaming video to your PSP from your PS3.

-Devs are being told to prepare their games for a fall release for the US.

As always, take with a grain of salt, especially something like that DVR stuff. Sorry about posting stuff like this about the PS3, but I've been getting very anxious lately, so I've been posting things that are a little less concrete about the PS3. If you don't want to hear these rumors, I'll try to keep them off the BBS and just post any REAL news.

While I'm talking about PS3 rumors, I'll go ahead and throw this in:

Supposed to be an interview with someone from Koei. Here's a summary from someone at another board:

Koei is going for online gaming in a big way this year, but although the interview seems very pro-PS3, they still don't know if the machine will have a HDD or not. Also in the interview he says Koei will make next gen versions of Nobunaga Online (PS3 version will come if there is a HDD). He was surprised to see a 360 version of FFXI at TGS last year, and he'd like to talk with MS and investigate the possibilities of putting Nobunaga's Ambition Online on 360. He comments that he hopes the PS3 online service will be on a par with, or exceed Xbox Live and mentions that the PS3 hardware is well suited towards an MMO next gen. He does confirm that an HDD is essential for MMOs though, so their decision to support PS3 or not will definitely be based on that.

Not really sure if he meant an HDD standard or as an add-on/accessory. I assume the former since it seemed pretty obvious that Sony would at least offer one as an add-on at E3. I guess that's interesting, and Koei going for online gaming kind of goes along with what the PSM article mentioned (devs focusing on online).

Here's a intertesting tidbit I received from a EB games employee. He said Microsoft is purposely delaying/pushing back Halo 3 so they can release it the same day PS3 gets release. This might be a good idea, but I think its flat out r****ded. Its good news to hear that PS3 is coming out this fall. Im going to buy two and put one on ebay.

That wasn't the same guy that told you the PS3 would be delayed due to Cell overheating, was it?

Without getting too far into discussing why that probably won't happen, I'm just going to post this for now:

Are you going to time some major titles to coincide with the launch?

Such as? [Laughing] Well the interesting thing is, when is the launch? How can I time for something when I don’t know when it is? So first of all, the answer is no. To somehow artificially plan something to combat things? They’ll launch, let’s face it. They’ll launch and it’ll be very successful.

There’s no doubt, regardless of whether I throw a title in there or an update of Live or whatever, that it’s not going to affect their launch. You don’t think they’re not going to sell out of PlayStation 3s, do you? You think that if I could create a piece of IP so that PlayStation 3s would arrive at Best Buy and they’d sit on the shelves? Come on, it’s not going to happen. It never happens with a console launch, so the ability for me to distract the consumer, I mean, I’d rather focus on the fact that whatever we do, whether it’s what Rare’s doing or what Bungie’s doing, that we make the best games possible and that we release it when it’s ready and that it moves our platform.

It’s stupid, ridiculous, and almost impossible to say to 80 guys programming, “I want you to make sure they see you can be ready to go two weeks from now.” It just doesn’t work. You know what you end up with? You end up with a sub-par game because you’re actually building a game with an alternative plan in mind other than making a great game. Game development doesn’t work that way, and anything that is of the quality of a Halo franchise, you do not risk screwing it up. And, by the way, don’t forget, we’ve done all this without Halo.

So yeah, you’ve got Gears of War coming. You’ve got Crackdown coming. You’ve got BioWare and Silicon Knights working on exclusive titles.

The Halo Nation would string me out from some flagpole if I used Halo to be a competitive counter balance to something else, for it to be anything other than for it to be the greatest game ever on an Xbox console -- or on any console. I mean, people love the conspiracy theories, like that it’s already ready to go. You know, no, that is not the case at all. We have a very precious piece of intellectual property in the Halo franchise. As you know, we’re doing the movie, and we’re delighted that Peter Jackson is working on it with us. There’s too much invested in this franchise and the Halo Nation is too dear to us to use them as pawns in some bigger game. It doesn’t work that way.

rc cola: have u played dmc3? if you have, can you beat mission 17 ejacumastubator with the beowulf gauntlets? If you can, could you do it for me, lol. I've spent over two hours doing 5 set combo's over and over and over x infinity and I cant seem to get the last blue orb.

Not yet. I was waiting until the SE came out before possibly giving it a shot, but at the moment, I'm a little too busy to play a new game. Sorry.

If I were you, I'd check out GameFAQs.com or a site like that if you're having problems with something. I think I'll also bump the Jan-Feb preview thread sometime this weekend so that people can give their impressions on any games they've bought, or will buy (such as DMC3:SE). That might be a good way to get help from others on the BBS, or at least that's what I had planned.
